I've been here lots of times, but I can't really say why. I'm almost always slightly frustrated with my experience there.
The food is average, not bad but also not great, and decidedly hit and miss. Some of it is pretty good, like the lentil soup and some of it is very much meh (the pitas). The lunch menu is normally ok but you can get better in this area.
Prices are a little bit too high, owing to the location I think, but it's nothing dramatic.
Service is the biggest problem of the place. It's not that they're unfriendly (though sometimes they are!) but they are completely incompetent. Especially if you sit outside, you'll wait ages for someone to come to take your order, bring the food, bring the check. Sitting down here on that little gravel patch in front of MUMOK means that you will most likely see the waiter/waitress come outside 2-3 times to bring something to a table, only to head back in again, totally oblivious to your desperate attempts to catch their attention. It's as if they're trying not to notice. I've had that happen too many times for it to be a...
Read moreA friend of mine, a local, took me here for dinner after our tour through the museums which are located right across the street of this restaurant. First of all, beside the non edible food which was highly praised as super fresh and cheap, the female blonde barkeeper with the high ponytail chose the wrong profession. I never have witnessed such a poor service as I have here at “Kantine”. She was kinda arguing the whole time with her boyfriend who was seated at the bar ans ignored all guests. If one dared to ask for the recipe, she would rolled her eyes and seemed annoyed by that question alone. Fine by me. I can leave without paying, if that’s too much of a work for you. I am willing to pay for an average service. You don’t have to be all smiley with me. But after noticing she wouldn’t give me back my change, I asked her to which she replied”but there’s no tip included”. Girl, I know! You’re looking for tips? You better be looking for a new job!I am very sorry for all her colleagues because with her, y’all...
Read moreThe MQ Kantine is a nice and artsy cantina/cafeteria of the MuseumsQuartier of Vienna, the Viennese Museum of Modern Art, right next to the famous Mariahilferstraße and the Kunsthistorisches Museum (Art History Museum) and Naturhistorisches Museum (Natural History Museum) at the famous Ringstrasse.
The opening hours of the MQ Kantine are great, since it is open until 02:00 am on every day of the week. The staff is nice and the food is delicious, as we had a Tomato-Bulgur-Soup and a Toast, as well a Cappuccino. I want to emphasize the very special decorative illumination of this place wherefore the artsy aura of the MuseumQuartier and the many exhibitions throughout the year are reflected in these effects.
From Vienna with Love! Dr. Dr....
