First of all, the blonde hair waitress that served us was really nice and friendly. The one-star does not represent her service. It was the man with glasses and salt and pepper hair, whom I assume was the manager, that deserves no star at all if only Google lets me.
My husband and I arrived at noon on Sep 4, 2023 (Mon), right at the opening hour. The restaurant was literally empty and there were only a couple of people in front of us. When I said we wanted to have a couple of drinks, he was visibly and audibly sultry, saying we could only sit at the counter. It’s not close to the window and we wanted to have a better view of the cathedral, so I asked him again if we could sit by the window if we order food as well. He told us he didn’t know, and he needed to check with his colleague who walked away to seat other guests. We waited and when the other staff came back, that other staff immediately said oh yes no problem, we could sit wherever we want.
It worked out in the end but the whole experience with that man with the glasses was such a disappointment. We were properly dressed and polite to everyone, but in return, was treated as unwelcome guests. The worst part was, as we finished our meal, we realized other tables next to us (also by the window) had only drinks and did not order anything to eat. So basically, he outright lied to us and tried to deter us for whatever reasons, and I sure hope it’s not because I’m Asian.
Food and drinks were great albeit slightly small. The plum dumplings were really delicious. The up-close view of the church was definitely the selling point. If you don’t want to have the same experience as we did but still want to enjoy a great view of the city, try Das Loft on...

First of all, I made a reservation in the morning for a Sunday night and told the girl I wanted a window seat, she said she was trying. Was the place fully reserved, no, but she would try.
Got there on time, and no window seating was available for our reservation. So, we still went ahead and sat.
Our waitress was trying her best to tend to us, but we kept having to flag her down and ask for water, wine, etc.
We ordered some wonton soup, and they put dehydrated mushrooms (you could tell they weren’t fresh and they tried to rehydrate) but it was chewy and spongy. I have had dehydrated mushrooms before, and there’s no way a restaurant charging these prices should not be using anything but the best and freshest ingredients possible. So that was a let down.
We had the beef tataki and it was the best thing we had all night. I ordered a gin drink and it was beautifully presented, but it was awful. How is a gin, honey, drink salty?? Don’t know how it’s possible, but it was.
We ordered the nigiri and I don’t know who thought it would be cute to put wasabi in between the rice and fish, but they did and we don’t like wasabi. So… there was that!!
The dessert was a raspberry ragout and a chocolate something or another and both people said it was good.
Overall, it’s overrated overpriced sushi that’s not worth it at all. Oh, and then in the middle of dinner the host comes and is like, wait a window seat just opened up, do you want to switch over?? Really ? We are in the middle of eating and now pick up you plate and move. The...
Read moreWe had lunch at Onyx Restaurant and it ended up being one of the best dining experiences of our entire trip. Even without a reservation, the staff went out of their way to find us a table — which we truly appreciated, especially considering how full the restaurant was.
The food was absolutely outstanding. Every dish felt carefully crafted, unique in flavor, and beautifully presented. It wasn’t just “good restaurant food” — it was something you remember. You could tell there was attention to detail both in ingredients and preparation. We especially loved the combination of textures and the boldness of the flavors — creative, but still comforting.
The service was kind, efficient, and genuinely welcoming. Despite being walk-in guests, we were treated with the same care and attention as those who had booked. The staff was knowledgeable about the menu and made great recommendations without being pushy.
But the atmosphere? That’s what elevates this place into something truly special. The interior design is modern and cozy, but the real star is the incredible view — sitting near the window, with a full view of the Duomo, made it feel surreal. It was the kind of meal where you slow down, take your time, and just enjoy the moment.
If you’re visiting the area, Onyx is a must — especially for a special lunch with a view. It’s romantic, refined, and worth every cent. Make sure to book in advance if you can, but even if you don’t, try your luck — it’s...
