After living in Vienna for so long, I finally decided to try Plachutta – specifically their new location at Neuer Markt. People always rave about their "Tafelspitz," but to my surprise, this location doesn’t have it on the menu. Instead, I went for the "Beef Fillet Steak With Mushroom Marrow Crust", and I have to say, it was absolutely delicious. The only downside? The portion felt a bit small for the price. What really stood out during my visit was the service. From the moment my friend and I walked in, to the delivery of the food, all the way to the goodbye, our waiter was exceptional. Impeccable service like this deserves a shoutout and definitely elevated the overall experience. As for the ambiance, this location felt a bit different from what I expected. It lacked the traditional Austrian charm that Plachutta is known for and gave off more of a large dining room vibe. The space felt a bit cramped, which took away from the coziness you’d hope for in a restaurant of this caliber. Overall, it was a good first experience at Plachutta, but I’m curious to try out their other locations to see how they compare. The food and service are certainly worth exploring further!

This is a great place for traditional Austrian food and ideal for bringing friends or family who are visiting Vienna. It’s very popular, so booking a table in advance is highly recommended. Unfortunately, the service didn’t meet our expectations. Although we had reserved an indoor table, we asked if it was possible to move outside. The young hostess responded in a way that came across as pissed off and unprofessional, making us feel as though we had made an unreasonable request. Fortunately, the manager stepped in and handled the situation with much more professionalism. Another issue was the pacing of the meal — both our starters and main courses were brought out within just 10 minutes of ordering, despite us being informed that the table was reserved for a full two-hour slot. This rushed service detracted from what could have been a relaxed dining experience. All in all, while the food met expectations, the service left much to be desired. With better staff training, this place could easily live up to its reputation.

A beautiful new restaurant with a stunning terrace – despite heavy rain and wind forcing us to change tables three times, it was absolutely worth it. The food was excellent: we had salmon and beef tartare, clear beef soup with semolina dumplings, fried veal liver, veal paprikash, sorbet, and a delicious curd cream dessert. Everything was well-prepared and full of flavor. A small suggestion for our otherwise kind waiter: when serving local guests sitting next to tourists, it would be nice to offer bread and butter to the tourists as well while they wait. Also, if a guest is moved to a new table, please bring along any prepaid items, like bottled water, instead of discarding them. Lastly, double-check that napkins are provided at the new table. Overall, a lovely experience – we’d happily return!

My friends and I came to this restaurant after hearing multiple glowing recommendations about it being the place to try the best Schnitzel in Vienna. Naturally, we were excited and made a reservation for the evening right away. During the booking, we specifically mentioned that it was a very special occasion, my friend’s birthday, and asked for the nicest table available. Everything seemed fine at first.

However, when we arrived, we were shown to a cramped corner table, clearly not the “special” experience we were promised. It was obvious that no one had taken the time to acknowledge or accommodate our request. That was just the beginning of a truly disappointing evening.

The food was average at best, certainly not living up to the hype. But worse than the food was the terrible service. Our waiter, a tall bald man, seemed like he couldn’t be bothered. He rushed through everything, barely acknowledged us, dropped off our food and drinks without a word, and gave us zero attention throughout the meal. As someone who works in a Michelin-level restaurant myself, I was shocked at the complete lack of hospitality or care. There was absolutely no level of service that would warrant a tip.

And yet, when it came time to pay, things went from bad to worse. The waiter pushed the card machine in front of me, offering preset tip percentages. I didn’t want to tip him, and when I tried to select an option that excluded a tip, he snatched the card reader away, visibly irritated. I asked, “Can I skip the tip?” and he bluntly said, “No. You just give it.” Feeling pressured and uncomfortable, I tapped a random option just to get it over with, absolutely furious.

The same thing happened to my friend. She also felt manipulated into tipping. Our third friend tried to skip the tip, but the waiter noticed and immediately pulled the card machine away, clearly trying to prevent her from doing so. It was clear he was actively forcing us into tipping, and it was humiliating.

We left feeling incredibly frustrated, disappointed, and frankly ripped off. On our way out, we spoke to a blonde woman who seemed to be the host, and a man who appeared to be the manager – medium height with his hair slicked back. I explained the situation and made it clear how upset we were. They acknowledged that no one can be forced to tip, even if it’s part of the culture.

As tourists from Denmark and as someone professionally involved in hospitality, I know for a fact that tipping should never be forced. This entire experience was a letdown, and I honestly feel like we wasted our...

We've booked in advance a table for 2 and our little dog, requiring to stay inside the restaurant and possibly in a table close to a window, in order not to bother other clients. As we arrived, we®ve been proposed a table outside, then, after my complaining, another one in the middle of others, finally we got a small one with shoulders attached to the garderobe and next to the entrance. Apparently no attention has been given to our requirements..The tables are too small and too many, one attached to the others, without enough comfort and privacy. The waiters don't even look if the table needs to be emptied when finishing...they®re over-stressed. With the dessert they provide you only with a spoon, a fork is missing, unusual in a 4-stars restaurant...My rice with asparagus was over-cooked and without character; my husband's "Wiener Schnitzel" small, fat and even smaller was the accompanying (extra paid) portion of boiled potatoes. The chocolate dessert was quite ordinary and industrial, not homemade as stated on the menu. All in all a disappointing experience, given the high price spent, totally €80.- with 2 main dishes, a small mineral, a small orange juice, 1 dessert...
