The food was warm and wonderful but the service was cold, frosty and rude.
We enter the restaurant and are greeted by are-you-sure-you-can-afford-this-place looks from an all-white staff. I put it down to the colour of my skin and, sure enough, I am the only one there. Then one guy tells me we have to wait at least 10 minutes at the bar before being seated, with a hopeful tone so I wouldn’t want to stay. I ignore his plea and wait at the bar hoping to be asked if I want a drink. Nothing. I walk up to the bartender and get a drink. We are seated after some time and served what we think are complimentary eats while we wait for what we ordered. Hell, no. We discover later (when the bill arrives) that this is “couvert”, a charge that supposedly covers these eats and other charges including for the linen! That’s fine, but it should at least be advertised clearly or called out so people know. The waiter asks us if we want still or sparkling water and we choose the former assuming it is regular water that Vienna is famous for. The waiter comes with an opened bottle of branded mineral water, so there’s no going back now. We look at all the other tables and they all have carafes of regular water that doesn’t cost 8 Euros. Clearly, he slipped one past us but we tell ourselves it’s fine. The food arrives and we love it. Finally, the bill arrives and the waiter asks us if we want to leave a tip. I politely decline and…wait for it…the waiter rolls his eyes and expresses displeasure to his colleague in front of all the other guests! A tip is something that is earned; it’s not a right. And it certainly doesn’t belong in what is clearly advertised as a fine dining place. I don’t care if you are racist (I do, but hear me out), but at least be professional to zip up your real feelings and do your job. Needless to say, I am never going back. If you aren’t white, my advice is to give this...
Read moreWe came to have lunch with my mom on a very hot day in Vienna and decided to visit Danieli. When we came in we were greeted by a polite server who told us to go and sit wherever we would like, and the table that we chose was right under the air conditioner, but it was a table for 4, and since the restaurant was practically empty we didn’t think there would be a problem, given the fact there’s over 30 tables in restaurant. When we sat down a waiter with long hair (unfortunately couldn’t get his name) came to tell us to move to a table for 2. We then asked him if it would be okay to stay at the same table we sat at and asked if it has a reservation on it or if someone is planning to come. He went silent, and then started cleaning the table, me and my mom sat there. He then gave us very nasty looks, before telling us to leave the restaurant without giving an explanation, this was obviously because we didn’t agree to move to a different table which was not under the AC, while all the tables were empty in that room. We asked for the manager, but we’re told he isn’t there. Wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone especially tourists, since they clearly do not like them. ...
Read moreWe had dinner at this restaurant. The food itself was fine , nothing extraordinary, but definitely not bad. We ordered pasta and lasagna, and both were satisfactory. The service during the meal was ordinary. It wasn’t memorable, but it was acceptable and there were no issues. However, what completely ruined the experience was what happened when it was time to pay. The man handling the payment acted incredibly rude and unprofessional. He pressured us to leave a tip, even after we politely said we didn’t have small notes and did not wish to tip. Instead of accepting that, he raised his voice, saying ,you don’t want ti give Tip?!! changed his facial expressions in a very disrespectful way, and embarrassed us in front of other customers. What’s worse he took money from us and decided on his own how much to keep, taking €10.20 extra without our agreement. This kind of behavior is disgraceful. A tip is something earned, not forced from customers with pressure or guilt. This kind of conduct overshadows everything else. It left us with a very negative impression, and we will absolutely never return or recommend this...
