We have lived here for 5 years and this was our first visit to Haus der Musik! We really enjoyed this place more than we thought we would. There was a lot to do here for both adults and children. There is an elevator, which is nice if you are traveling with children in a stroller or you are unable to do the (many, many) stairs. But be WARNED, once you go UP in the elevator, it only goes back DOWN to the main entrance which is OUTSIDE THE MUSEUM ENTRANCE and you cannot get back inside without paying again. So my advice is to go up floor by floor. Then take it back down and out. Otherwise you will miss something. Make sure to leave enough time (at least an hour, if you have small child 10 and under!) for the CLONG ROOM!! It is amazing and so much fun to both do and watch!! My kid and the two we were with spent at least an hour here making clongs and then running out to the screen to see THEIR clongs on the screen. It was nice because it gave the three adults time to sit, enjoy the CLONG show, and have a quiet chat. :) Also, for those who do have enough mobility even to do one flight of stairs, there are audible PIANO STAIRS going up to the first floor. They are super fun and the kids loved them. As did the adults. There is A LOT of information, fun facts, interaction, music, things to see and do, etc. in this museum and is WELL WORTH the admission price. This is a gem of a museum and I highly recommend it. The friends we were with have been at least 5x and have lived here 5 years. We will definitely be back!!

I was a bit wary about the "interactive elements" promised by the Haus der Musik after being terribly disappointed by the Technical Museum, but I was very pleasantly surprised. There weren't a ton of activities there, but what they had were incredibly well done. My 5 year old son's favorites were the movement game right outside the ticket counter, and the rolling the dice game which created individualized/random waltzes. I loved conducting the orchestra on the top floor - the reactions of the instrumentalists when the conducting goes awry are pretty priceless, and makes you want to screw up just to see what they say. I really also appreciated the activity where you can listen to what different sounds sound like to a baby in the womb. My son forced us to walk quickly through the more traditional museum elements, but I would have liked to spend more time there. Not only was everything beautifuly staged, but the music piping through the rooms lent a very peaceful air. If I go back, I'll go by myself and take my time. We went on a Friday morning right when it opened (school holiday) and had pretty much the whole place to ourselves. Note that larger backpacks are not allowed in the museum. This Museum is worth a visit.

Mind altering - genuinely so. The variety of access you have, as isolated beams, wave forms, surround sound, Clongs, home theatre is truly immersive and disorientating if you're not familiar with them. The headphone set up where you hear what animals and ever babies in the womb here is a great experience too, but the Clong space is first class. The clongs space is immense, you make a ball of music with spikes in room then go and watch them interact with other people's musical imaginings in another room. Yes, I've reread the above sentence, I understand it makes no sense, but that's what happens. You can't even google the word clong. But that's what's this museum invites you to see. A word of note, we normally start museums at top floor then work our way down, DO NOT do this here. It reframes your view of the place as the older technology is at the top, with the, in my opinion cooler stuff on the lower floors. The top spaces are also far too dark in my opinion, at times I thought it was a haunted house vibe they were going for, but floors one and two are worth the visit alone. And once again, clongs people, it’s about the clongs. A place to go for sure

I recently visited the Music Museum in Vienna and had a fantastic experience. This place is a treasure trove for music lovers and offers something for everyone. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with fun and interactive exhibits that make learning about music enjoyable.

On the first floor, there's a piano-like installation on the ground that plays a note when you step on it, which is a fun way to start your visit. There's also a theater room that plays classical music, setting the mood perfectly. Two other rooms on this floor offer fascinating insights into local composers, including games where kids can create their own music compositions by virtually rolling dice.

The next floor focuses on the science of sound. It explains how sound is created, explores the differences in sound waves, and shows how other creatures perceive sound. The museum has invested in great interactive technology and provides high-quality ATK headphones to enhance the experience.

Another floor is dedicated to musical instruments and how they produce sound, featuring more interactive games that make learning fun and engaging.

Upstairs, there's a section about famous composers from Vienna and Austria, like Franz Schubert, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Joseph Haydn, and Johann Strauss II. You can dive into their biographies, explore their works and studies, and listen to fragments of their compositions. There are also displays of musical instruments from their time, which adds a historical touch to the visit.

The top floor is more kid-friendly, with interactive activities designed to teach children about conducting an orchestra. This hands-on experience lets you try your hand at being a conductor, guiding the ensemble through a piece of music.

The museum is open until 10 PM, and if you visit in the evening, you can enjoy a reduced ticket price. Overall, the Vienna Music Museum is a must-visit for anyone interested in music, offering an engaging and educational experience that’s perfect for all ages. Whether you’re a music aficionado or just curious, you'll find plenty to explore...

The House of Music museum in Vienna is an engaging and educational experience for families. During our visit with my wife and our two kids, aged 3 and 5, we were delighted by the interactive exhibits and captivating displays.

The museum offers a diverse range of exhibits that cater to all age groups. Our children particularly enjoyed the interactive music-making stations, where they could experiment with different instruments and create their own melodies. It was heartwarming to see their faces light up as they discovered the joy of making music.

The museum also provides an opportunity to learn about the history of music and its great composers. The exhibits are presented in an engaging and accessible manner, making it easy for young children to grasp the concepts. The interactive displays, including touchscreens and audiovisual presentations, kept our kids entertained and enriched their understanding of music.

One of the highlights of our visit was the virtual conductor exhibit. Our kids had a blast stepping into the shoes of a conductor and leading a virtual orchestra. It was a unique and interactive experience that allowed them to feel like they were part of a symphony.

The House of Music museum also caters to the needs of families with amenities such as clean restrooms and a designated play area for children. These thoughtful additions made our visit more convenient and enjoyable.

Overall, our visit to the House of Music museum was a wonderful experience for the whole family. It provided a perfect blend of entertainment and education, captivating both adults and children alike. We highly recommend it as a must-visit attraction in Vienna for families seeking a fun and enlightening...
