Sperling im Augarten — Restaurant in Vienna

After our rather expensive dinner we could not get out of Augarten with our car, upon calling the manager (who has the key to the gate) he told us to wait 45 minutes for him to come and open the gate. How appaling and obnoxious. Imagine paying 400 euros for dinner and then being told to wait 45 minutes to leave.

Since i can't reply to your comment. I ll answer your unsurprisingly rude and unprofessional message here. I also won't be replying in German in order to leave it clear for any tourist that wants to visit your missmanaged restaurant. It is Herr Dr. Matić, not Herr Matić. We were not 12 people, we were 8 people. Nice try. Your incompetent waiters didn't tell us that the gate would be closing and there is no way out. The other guests managed to leave because they didn't come by car and the pedestrian gate was open. Or maybe they've been to your restaurant before at this time, we have not and will not come again. Our driver and his wife, who is pregnant, did not drink and none of us were drunk, thank you very much. You are right though, it would be a crime to drive drunk, remember that for yourself. Tap water is a "product", wow. I have so much "product" at home. Isn't it strange that most comments here are complaining about your service.

Excellent restaurant in the beautiful Augarten Park - nevertheless you can park your car in front of the restaurant which is a big plus in a region of Vienna where it's close to impossible to find a parking spot. It would be hard to find a comparable restaurant location in the middle of a historic park and dine in the middle of huge meadows and flowerbeds. Another perk is that you can choose inside or outside seating (weather permitting) with two different terraces with different views of the spacious park.

The menu is very varied in all directions and the quality of the food is more than acceptable considering the somewhat upscale price level. Regarding the € 1,80 for 1L tab water which was mentioned in other reviews we thought that this fair and normal and actually we had paid more in other places.

Recommendation: Make a reservation for the usual busy times like weekends...

We went here for lunch. This restaurant is so picturesque inside and outside!

The portions are satisfying - not too small and not too many. I had the Metzgerstück for my main course and followed it with tiramisu and cappuchino. The Metzgerstück is divine! The sauce is so delicious especially when paired with the asparagus and the beef slices was so tender it basically melts in the mouth.

The tiramisu is very good! Creamy, chocolatey, with a little hint of what I think is lemon. Perfect ending for a great meal.

The prices for the starters and main course are at the higher end but one should bear in mind that this restaurant is an upscale restaurant so this should be expected.

Unlike other reviews here, I found the service good. The waiters are accommodating.

I recommend Sperling im Augarten if you are looking for an upscale picturesque...
