Sketchy, dirty, with lots of poor and homeless people loitering near the entrance... that's how you know the food is going to be amazing... If you have the gaul, approach this hole-in-the-wall location on a side street, off the main beaten path of flowing tourists in downtown Nassau... Food is very, very cheap... its clear these folks are a heartfelt need there in the community for those locals who can't afford the visitor prices of neighboring eateries... Everything I saw come out of that kitchen looked delicious... and with a huge portion... I had a breakfast item... grits and corned beef... it was dense and heavy in my hand... and only four dollars... awesome... the place doubles as some sort of "top up" service for a third party, so yes, there is some shady looking traffic... but everyone is harmless... in fact if anything, just hovering on these sides of the streets in downtown, reminds you of how hard the hustle is on the island... spend your money here... get a great meal...

My dad hates anything not familiar to him. I suggested we try this place and he frowned and shrugged his shoulders. The owner saw this and then saw me roll my eyes at my dad’s reaction. I went ahead and ordered a large jerk chicken and rice and a bbq chicken and rice, as well as an order of conch fritters. When I say we left nothing but bones…I mean my dad left nothing but bones. The whole time the owner had a knowing grin oh his face as we inhaled the food. We perched in a row on a little wooden bench in front of the place and ignored all the locals gawking at the Asian family inhaling takeout. It’s a little intimidating to walk up to since it’s definitely a locals known place, but be brave and order! We just regret not trying the curry chicken or the patties!

Not a single tourist was waiting as we walked up, as it can be a little intimidating to some seeing locals walking up to the window buying their lunch and loose smokes to go from this literal hole in the wall hiding behind a row of Jitneys. But as we waited for one cook to prep our large order of about 20 Conch Fritters all together(4 orders of 5 fritters), every local was very friendly. Striking up conversations about the “where froms” and “where goes”, thanking us for experiencing their community. Nevermind the fritters being absolutely delicious, and cooked perfectly, served with what tasted like Yum Yum Sauce. Go ahead and take a few to enjoy “island time”. It’s worth the wait.
