Restaurant Review 🤤

Esco Bar, Antwerp 🇧🇪

We arrived in Antwerp around lunch time and we were HUNGRY. It was a beautiful day so we were hoping to find somewhere we could eat outside. We dropped our bags off at the hotel and a quick google search led us to Esco Bar. It was only a 7 minute walk from the Station ANTWERPEN-CENTRAAL. Like a lot of these businesses in the lowlands you have no idea what you’re in for by just looking at the outside of the building. What a beautiful place to grab a bite to eat.

There are many seats inside but the true beauty of this spot (and where everyone else was) is the back “patio”. A turf/grassy area, in the sun, that makes you feel like you’re having a picnic. There are some loungers at the back if you really want to relax but also tables to eat at. The weather helped but it was magical. Birds chirping and the wind blowing. It really couldn’t have been a more perfect day to eat outside.

I was ready to have one of their burgers if they had a bun I could eat (the gluten free options were limited). No luck on the bun, so I opted for a salad instead. I’m not lying and don’t laugh when I say, but it was THE BEST salad I’ve ever had. Apples, nuts (almonds, cashews, walnuts), bacon, cranberries, feta cheese (it was waaaaaarm), cucumber, tomato, leafy greens, and a honey mustard dressing. Delicious. The warm feta on top just MADE the salad and the dressing 🤤. Trevor had the Chicken Burger (Parmesan, greens, avocado, tomato and mayo with chips on the side). Not much conversation during lunch took place that’s for sure.

The price for the burger was reasonable, a bit much for the salad but I’d pay €17 for that salad any day. Overall we loved our experience at Esco Bar and would definitely recommend going if you’re in Antwerp!

Great place for our breakfast! The sandwich with egg, salmon and avocado was great. The employees were really nice to us. The decor looked a bit like they bought everything at a thrift store, including the plates but I really didn't mind. It didn't look out of place. I was a bit disappointed though by how uncomfortable the chairs and our table were. They did also have other chairs there so maybe just our luck while sitting down. Most surprising to me was the way the Espresso Doppio was served. It was served in a glass that had the shape of a whiskey glass. Such a big glass for this drink made it so it cooled down really quickly and there was almost no crema on top of the Espresso because of the big liquid surface on top. I would still definitely recommend this place for...

I went to have a latte machiato and i think i got a cappacino . When i wanted to pay they only then tell me its a cash only place no where indicates this and i asked the lady behind the cashier were it this is stated she answers with that most of belgium places people pay cash... in the high tech society we live in its not to be relied on that everyone walks around and pays with cash.i actually needed to catch my bus and yet i had no other choice then to miss it and go to the bank before i could leave making me late ! remark either a sign or a nicer way to tell visitors you only accept cash... I was dissapointed to this trip after a long time of waiting visit again.. spanish english man is...

Almost walked past it but I'm so glad we didn't! This great little gem is a must if you want a delicious breakfast/brunch. When you first walk in it is a very cozy atmosphere, very much like a little garden. And talking about gardens, fortunately for us the weather was great so we were seated outside and is was so nice. The staff was very kind and sweet, they recommended the cappucrunch to me (their special cappuccino) and it was soooooo good!!! At first I was a little skeptical about the prices but it was totally worth it! Everything tasted so fresh and had a lot of flavor! Totally worth a check if you are nearby.

We stopped in for brunch and had the farmers omelette, ham and cheese omelet, and bacon omelet as well as the banana blueberry pancakes. Prices are very reasonable. The pancakes are actually crepes and it only includes one so if you’re hungry I’d recommend the omelette. The omelettes include a salad and bread. At the end they told us it was CASH ONLY. There was no signage indicating this that we could see. We generally try to ask before ordering, but we failed to do so here. Overall, it’s a fine choice if you’re needing something in the area, but if I was spending more time in Antwerp it wouldn’t be a repeat visit.
