Cafe Rose Red — Restaurant in Bruges

A difficult one to review as I really like this place. Visited it 3 years ago and thought we would pop in with my son (2 years) for a quick bite to eat and a drink. Pros-nice bar, food and beer selection and close to centre.

On our visit this time we kept getting angry glances from a very intoxicated women at the bar. She obviously didnt like children and I said to my husband let's go after the food comes out. My son was seated and playing with his cars on the table the whole time. Long story short she ended up verbally abusing us, and told my son to be quite in a not so polite way. 5 minutes later I dropped my folk and she swore and shouted at me about alot of stuff and the whole thing was very unpleasant. She said she has lived there for 20 years etc etc and doesnt have to like kids;which I never said she did. But it's a public place so she has to tolerate them at least. It ended up with me crying, dinner ruined and us going back to the hotel as I didnt feel like doing anything else. Our only night in Bruges, before driving back to The Netherlands. This all happened at 5.30pm. Not 11pm or close to closing. We were told she is often like that, I do not feel they should be allowed in. Apparently they (they were a couple) will not be in the future but this doesnt help our situation. It cost nearly 50 euros to have one of the most unpleasant meals/situation in a very long time. First horrible situation my son had to witness, calling him names and pointing at him in an angry slurred manner. staff were nice and helpful and the lady behind the bar handled the situation well but such a shame it was allowed to get...

This is a quiet little beer house/cafe with an awesome beer selection. It was recommended to me and my small group of friends from a worker at a local beer store and we would have never found it otherwise. Got to try a lot of local Belgian beers I would have never have heard of otherwise and some also some of my favorite Belgian beers that I couldn't find at the tourist-focused pubs around the market square. The service was awesome and they made very helpful and honest recommendations. I'll definitely be making this a regular stop...

Booked for food after seeing lots of good reviews. Was very disappointed. Service was terrible. We ordered drinks and two dishes, drinks came. Food did not. People who arrived after us were receiving food, and when we asked about our food we were told the kitchen was very busy. I get that, but not if the same food we ordered is coming out to tables that ordered after us. It took an hour for an overpriced plate of gyoza to come out.
