Not cheap, but it's worth it. And they're not kidding when they say 'giant waffles'! We were going to order one each but seeing the size of our neighbour's we settled for one to share, with banana and maple syrup: €7 for the waffle, + €3 for each topping. Some toppings are more expensive - like €12 extra for fresh fruit! The waffles are delicious - hot, fresh and very light. Tho be warned of the Lizzie's Wafle special: white choc and caramel. It is incredibly sweet!!
There's a good selection of coffees/chais and the hot chocolate looked absolutely mad: a beautiful big hand made chocolate flower that you melt into a tumbler of hot milk. They also have an impressive selection of teas, beautifully made in silk and cotton teabags. Every hot drink is served with a little selection of sweets or biscuits. And the service was brilliant, quick, chatty and very welcoming. It's these extra efforts that meant I didn't mind paying a little extra than expected for the food.
We arrived Friday at noon and didn't have to wait to sit, but it does get super busy and we saw a huge queue outside it one afternoon, so don't be surprised if you have...
Read moreLizzie's Wafels were extra large, tasty and crispy as promised. However, there were downfalls throughout the experience. Firstly, the milk served with tea appeared to be curdled with white flakes. On the other hand, the cappuccino was excellent. Secondly, when ordering two chocolate sauces we were advised that one is plenty for two of us. So we agreed to share one pot of sauce. Strangely, when reading through the bill, we were charged for two of the chocolate sauce. On top of this, our receipt included two servings of whipped cream which we had not ordered. This could've been a simple error, however, when the hostess read through our bill prior to payment, she skipped over the whipped cream (5€), perhaps assuming that we don't understand as we were speaking in English. Lucky for us, we are well aware of what "Slagroom" means. At Lizzie's Wafels you will definitely be greeted with a smile, friendly conversation and pleasant atmosphere. The wafels won't leave you disappointed, but make sure you read through your bill before payment as you might lose a...
Read moreI went to visit a friend in Brugge and was craving a proper Brussels waffle (most of the shops you see are pre-bought Liège waffles), and Google sent me to Lizzie's Waffles.
At first, I was a bit shocked to see the prices. They seemed quite high, even for the touristy center of Brugge. Then I saw the waffle landing on the table next to us, and it all made sense. The waffle is an absolute unit! You can easily share it between two or three people. The portion sizes of the toppings are also massive. It's all well worth the money!
The shop also offers various drinks, hot and cold. I ordered a hot chocolate, which turned out to be hot milk and a chocolate flower filled with shavings that you dunk into the milk and it melts away. Loved it! As a bonus, we got a cup of Nic Nac cookies and Mariakes as a snack.
To top it all off, the owner is so incredibly welcoming and friendly. She came to chat with us a few times during our time there, and we exchanged stories. She's wonderful, and probably the sweetest thing in the...
