Usually I don’t post reviews but today it’s a must. Even one star is a bit too much.
If you want to leave Brugge with a good memory please avoid this place - don’t be lazy like us and do your research.
Extremely slow & bad service - they forgot about us twice (while telling us/lying they never forget about anyone - well obviously they do, given that people who arrived after us got their meals well before us) Dirty dishes - coffee was served in a dirty cup. What can I say Frozen food - not only that they forgot about our dessert, but obviously they forgot to fully reheat the apple cake. Part of it was completely frozen while the other part of it was hot. If I wanted to get a pre-made cake, I could go to a local Carrefour and reheat it myself. I bet the Carrefour cake would even taste better. I didn’t bother to try the whipped cream it was served with but let’s say it didn’t look impressive.
I didn’t expect much from this place as it’s in a tourist spot (and seems it’s a classic tourist trap) but they say ignorance is bliss - this was a nice reminder that it’s worth to do your research and pay more instead of having an...
Read moreWorst restaurant experience in my life. The owner is verbally assaultive to patrons. Zero stars. On a day bus tour from Amsterdam so limited time to see this beautiful city. Our guide Pedro ended the walking tour here and recommended the mussels. Since it was lunch time we took a table. Poor service from the start. When we asked how much longer the food would be after waiting 45 minutes the owner came over and started yelling at me. The tour guide intervened to help get our food. When I went to pay the charge was 27E. I disagreed and showed the owner the listing in the menu for 17E which I had also pointed to for the waiter. Turns out there is another page in the menu with the same dish for 27E. SCAM. Then the owner became more verbally aggressive and a little frightening. I have been a registered nurse for 40 years and realized this was not going to get better. Paid and left but the experience discoloured the rest of the time in Bruges. Upon checking the reviews we realized Pedro has recommended this restaurant before to equally unhappy tourists. No tip...
We had an extremely disappointing experience at Old Bruges. From the start, we felt deceived. The name of the restaurant is not visible either outside or on the menu; it only appears on the back, where there’s a schematic of the table layout—likely something they’re required to have by law. This should have been a warning sign, but we decided to give it a try, which turned out to be a big mistake.
The tomato soup was disgusting, just canned tomato purée with water, lacking any flavor or texture. The mussels, which should be a specialty in this region, were completely tasteless. And the dessert was the final straw: a clearly industrial apple pie, with no effort or quality put into it.
The quality of the food is terrible, and the prices are outrageous. We paid 125 euros for four people, which is an exorbitant price for the quality they offer. Don’t be fooled by the cozy-looking terrace; it’s nothing more than a tourist trap.
To top it off, the white wine we ordered, for which we were charged 7.5€ per glass, was of mediocre quality—a wine that clearly costs no more than 1€ per bottle.
In summary, terrible quality and excessive prices. Places like this should be banned in a city like Bruges because they completely ruin the visitor’s experience. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Avoid Old Bruges at all costs if you don’t want your visit to this beautiful city to be a...
