Appalling cheeseburger, absolutely horid. While i have nothing against the place nor staff, in fact it's quaint atmosphere, cosy, just enough crowd. A very pleasant vibe to enjoy food, however. The cheeseburger is appalling. There's only a single slice of lettuce, no tomato, basic mayo sauce, overdone, way overcooked patty (meat) and plastic cheese that's not even melted but rather just slapped on top of the patty. The meat is too finely grinded, it resembles nursing home patty, seasoning has industrial aftertaste, and worst of all, way overcooked, overdone, slight burnt so it's almost black on the outside and way too dry on the inside as sawdust. See the picture of the cheeseburger yourself (other patrons posted it, it looked just like that), cheese just hangs out, as if it had just been taken out of plastic wrapper. Single slice of lettuce that you barely taste. You can do bacon and some other toppings at +1.5 eur per topping but honestly that would just make bad burger even worse. The base is beyond salvation.

And here's the real disappointing factor about this burger, it comes at upper mediocre/pricey cost of 17 eur (with fries), that is just crazy price for such tasteless, bland burger. Some food that was going out actually looked good and decent. I had extreme unfortune for going with cheeseburger, and embarrassment was complete. I kept apologizing to my party of 4 for picking this place (i paid the bill because there was no apology for taking someone here and have them pay for their burger).

It's a sad state of affairs that you can't get any food on the menu without going full kpmg audit on a place before eating there. I had cheeseburger (i think it was 9 or 10eur) at Uncle Richard’s in Ixelles and honestly it cannot compare. Juicy, better quality meat, melted cheese put on the burger at the right time while grilling, sauce made in the kitchen and not bought in bulk, overall way better and much cheaper than Walvis. Staff at Walvis is friendly and all, the place has great feel to it, but this burger, sadly, completely tarnished the experience. I wish i had gotten my money back, because our...

Now I’m someone who often dines solo, I either read or journal my thoughts while awaiting my food or if I got a lot on my mind I just write.

When I got there there was a nice vibe. There’s illustrations on glass windows and a nice view of the canal. If you love posters, in the washroom there are posters everywhere pamphlets and postcards (the graphic designer in me loved every part of it lol).

I sat backing the bar that day and it was raining. The service was absolutely amazing, I didn’t feel self conscious eating alone and the staff made me feel welcome.

I ordered the 17€ Belgian burger which came with homemade fries and a red cocktail I also got a salad which was huge and absolutely delicious. I can’t rmr the name of the cocktail (it wasn’t my taste but I finished it anyway).

The burger was soooooo good omfg. The wait staff and owner (I think it was him) was also very lovable. I really recommend this place especially if you’re a solo diner such as myself. I also recommend the gâteau au poire it’s absolutely fire ! 😌

Honestly go, take your friends or just go alone it’s a really great place and it’s affordable as well.

Thanks for the...

Food: The Fries looked homemade, but weren't salted Cheese Burger and soup was okay Veggie Burger the goulash (or what ever it was) were both really bad We had enough bread but it was low quality baguette

Drinks: Only a little choice of cocktails but a good choice of beers and non alcoholic drinks Tea was big and good

In general: The atmosphere was good, a lot of young people and you can eat alone or with others The service wasn't really attentive but when you looked out for them, they reacted The staires for the toilets are not easy to walk, so be careful! The toilets in general are not clean or closed for privacy reasons The Food is cheap for Brussels but you pay for low quality food Although we went out on a Sunday they we out of homemade punch, veggie lasagne and ginger tea

Not to be recommended (at least for tourists but maybe good for students...

Ordered a caesar salad and grosser bertha. Had two, maybe three sips of my beer whilst eating my salad before going to the toilet. When i returned, my beer had been tossed. I tried to ask/explain to the bartender my qualm but the language barrier ( I am American). So i was forced to not only pay for a beer that i didn't drink, but also order a supplement. Below is a Photo of my meal and beer....i ate the salad but had just a few sips of beer before heading to the toilet. Food was good. Service and atomsphere were good ,despite the mysterious disappeared beer that I had to pay for.

I used to love this place, but after my visit today i must replace the 5 stars with a generous 2 stars. What used to be a great value, friendly place has lost its way entirely. 8 euro for “fried eggs” which really is just that - 2 eggs fried, with no twist or addition. 15 euro for 3 tiny pancakes (?!) which were lukewarm. Not to mention the extremely long wait (you know it’s going to be a busy day, plan your kitchen accordingly). The only positive was the kind waiters. So disappointing that my favourite brunch place has become another brussels rip off…
