First of all the coffee here is fantastic, and the cinnamon pastry I had was pretty tasty too. So if you're in Brussels and need a super hipster indie coffee place, this is it. However, they go way too far in their pursuit of coffee snobbery...

  1. I asked for my coffee with milk on the side and was told they weren't allowed to serve milk with their hand drip coffees. I get what they're trying to do, but just let the customers have what they want,

  2. Some American lads walked in and asked if they served a mocha. The barista pretended to not know what that was, leaving the lads to explain it to her. She then said she could try to make one, which I thought was quite nice, but then she added "or you can go to Starbucks". She laughed. They left.

  3. The place takes cards only. Perhaps this is easier for them, but in a city with so many international visitors, paying with cash is a way for foreign customers to avoid bank transaction fees, so their already pricey coffee costs more.

That said, I still went here twice during my ten days in Brussels, because the coffee was...

Passed by this coffee shop on our way to the train station and decided to give it a shot based on how busy it was and how nice and modern the interior looked.

I ordered a cold brew coffee which came with a slice of lemon. The taste was nice a mild for my first cup of coffee.

My girlfriend ordered the sandwich with butternut pumpkin, crispy tofu, and pickled cucumbers. The ingredients were very fresh and the bread was good. Even came with a small bit of salad on the side!

We also tried the apple I juice, which had a unique and fresh taste to it. However, it did seem a bit overpriced for 3 euros since the cup was small.

Prices are pretty reasonable for the quality but the drinks are on the smaller size. To be fair, this is the first coffee shop I've visited in Brussels so this might be the norm. Will visit again if...

You pay for above standard presentation as this is amongst the Mostly Overpriced Koffee bars in Brussels. MOK sources and roasts their brews and this is evident in the passion - sadly also in the prices. However, the barista knows their craft and although the serving size is on the petite side, the flavour is full with oceans of precious crema (try the Ethiopia blend or Nitro-brew for cold coffee). I like to hide at the airy rear of the cafe area which has a big skylight, but there are also a bench seating outside or bar stools. Great and very fresh sandwiches (try avocado), and a good selection of cookies: try the glutenfree ones. Not really a place to go as a group or with kids (try Phare across the canal). I have recently dropped a star since, as MOK got busy, the perfunctory perfectionalism killed off the vibe.

Yes, yes, yes. Everything just works at Mok from the design to the coffee to the food. My family of three went for breakfast and coffee on an August Monday morning. Although our seven-year-old was the only child present, we had a great experience. Here’s why. 1) Drink: They brew quality coffee with the best filtered water (also available on tap for guests). My latte was exactly how i enjoy it- strong and creamy. They have sugar off to the side if you need it. 2) Food: A simple menu, everything is made and presented with perfection. My wife’s avocado toast is “the best she’s ever had.” The cheese toast with the fermented onion ketchup hit the spot. 3) Vibes: It’s a cool spot, but don’t be intimidated. Staff are friendly. There’s indoor and outdoor seating and restrooms in the basement.
