Restaurant Aster — Restaurant in Brussels

We had a really great experience a few weeks ago, the food was fantastic and the flavours very surprising! I believe feedback is always something positive, we had a very nice waitress who could have maybe had a bit more detailed information regarding the menu… whenever we would ask about an ingredient, she would tell you to Google it as she didn’t know herself 😅 afterwards one of the owners took over and service was great. In addition the location is fun, however, for the price, lacks a bit of privacy. When we were there it was also quite a warm day and they were asked to open the window to let in air, ultimately we got the smoke from the kitchen blown back into the restaurant. This place isn’t just about good food ;it’s about intention. The chef is incredibly talented and clearly driven by deep respect for nature. They source their fish directly from trusted fishermen, cook exclusively over charcoal, and lean heavily into fermentation in a way that really elevates everything on the table.

It’s a pescatarian restaurant ,fish and vegetables only ..and every plate reflects thoughtful creativity. The drinks deserve their own spotlight: house-made kombuchas, carefully selected sake, and other unique pairings that completely blew us away. Nothing felt random ! everything was made or chosen with care.

I went through and read some of the bad reviews. I honestly don't know what resturant the people went to but I don't know if it was resturant aster haha. The food we had was small in portions but there was depth and flavor to every dish. Some of the dishes were not as good as others yet none of them were horrible or bad. The difference in the quality of dishes was the difference in having a really good dish and a phenomenal dish. The staff were great. The place was lovely. The smoke from the fire wasn't noticeable at all despite being two tables away. The smokiness and char on some of the dishes was noticeable and just really added to depth of flavors.
