Amazing restaurant in the Grand place! Stopped by for an early dinner after spending the day exploring Brussels with my partner. We were looking online for recommendations and Cave du Roy kept popping up and recommending the mussels in garlic sauce. When I tell you, that dish did NOT disappoint! They were the best mussels my partner and I ever had in our lives! By far our favorite dish we had in all of Europe thus far! Our waiter was also incredibly kind and helpful with giving my partner good recommendations for beers that paired nicely with our food. This place can get crazy busy in the evening so make sure to book ahead online. Anything before five is usually pretty empty as we noticed many Europeans like to eat after 7, and busy times were 8-9pm. The decor was so rustic and quaint and we really enjoyed having dinner here. The restaurant is underground and so the steps can be a little steep and slippery so just take caution when going downstairs to it.
But highly recommend this place while you’re in Brussels! You won’t be...
Read moreExcellent place to eat. Found this restaurant by accident down some steps. Immediately impressed by the atmosphere, which resembled a much more expensive restaurant. Prices are reasonable, the proprietor very friendly and chatty, and the food was very well cooked and tasty. Bread and butter was placed on the table, and I had a starter of very tasty vegetable soup followed by grilled chicken, salad and frites. My granddaughter had onion/ cheese soup which she loved, and two huge sausages with a potato/ vegetable mix for a main course The soups were delicious, the chicken was succulent and my granddaughter says the sausages were 'ace'! With our soft drinks, the bill came to just under €50, very reasonable for two substantial meals. We both left a little of our main course as we were too full, but I wish we'd had room for dessert. For anyone visiting the Grand Place, I would highly recommend...
Read moreI was a little skeptical because it's in Grand Place and places like this tend to be very touristy, but I absolutely recommend Cave du Roy!
With seating, you can't lose. Outside seating is in Grand Place. Inside seating is this cozy brick cellar from the 1600s that is beautiful and has a great ambiance.
The food is classic Belgian and was delicious. I got the Carbonnade with Fries (Flemish Beef Stew). There was basically no fat and it was one of the best Carbonnades I've ever had. My wife got the Duck à l'Orange and it was delicious as well.
It's a bit expensive, but for being in Grand Place the prices are reasonable. Even if you don't want a full meal, it's worth stopping by for a beer to soak in...
