First : One would love to give this place a good review. If only one could. With its convenient location in the city center and its airy art nouveau interior in confusingly different styles the place is a must see for Brussels visitors and therefor has its guaranteed flow of one time guests. The restaurant is big, has ample outside seating and on a Wednesday evening had two waiters running around simply trying to cope with the demands of their guest and the obvious ineptitudes behind the scenes. They even managed to stay friendly. Probably they know how it could have been if the restaurant was more than half full. The first beer order is declined after a long wait (out of stock) but the second try is a winner. The restaurant doors remain open despite rapidly dropping temperatures outside. Some people leave because after 15 minutes they still had not been able to place an order. Others change tables to move away from the doors. The food arriving on the table is cold. The complaint is repaid with revenge rather than improvement. Fifeteen minutes later the food returns so hot it requires another 10 minutes cooling to be remotely edible. All this leaves plenty of time to watch the woman behind the bar. She is busy with handing food from the kitchen to the counter, preparing drinks, draw beer from various taps, eating and drinking herself, scooping ice with a small shovel to glasses, scratching her face, picking her teeth with a straw, scooping ice with her fingers to glasses, using the small shovel to scoop foam on beers that went stale on the counter and then with the help of one of the waiters cutting lemon slices for more drinks. So bring your warm sweater, order a bottled! beer and if things seem to move along smoothly venture deeper into the menu. The place is just too...
Read moreHello, we are a couple of students from Poland exploring Belgium. We are really into sightseeing but we have limited budget. We wanted to see this restaurant because of it's history and a Falstaff persona, an inspiration of other literary characters in Polish literature. We checked the prices beforehand. On the restaurant's web page we found a drink ,,half & half" that costs 4 euro. We decided to go inside, order it and have a look around. We were greeted by a very charming waiter. He was really nice and friendly. He even invited us to go to another restaurant where he could put us on the guest list. We were under very good impression so we decided to order another glass of the drink and spend some more time in the restaurant. When we wanted to pay we learned that the price is not 4 euro but 9 euro! We showed the waiter the menu on the page but we were told that the price went up because of the war in Ukraine. The waiter showed us a menu with a sticker on the previous price and handwritten new price... We are aware of the situation on the other side of our border but isn't 2 years long enough to change the prices at the website if you raise the price over 100% and you know that the visitors of your restaurant are mainly tourists that may have problems with foreign languages? It looks very shady and unfairly. We paid 36 euro instead of expected 16… We went out confused and realised that we didn't even receive a bill. Very...
Read moreFail Staff. The fact that I take time to write about it indicates just how poor it was. I had a romantic trip to Brussels with my girlfriend and decided to go for lunch because it looked fairly cosy from the outside.
Once we sat down we waited for a long time before anyone came to our table, even though only 4 out of the 25 tables had guests. We wanted to have some lunch so asked for the menu and never got it. Not only did we not get the menu but when we asked for the menu again, we couldn't get the attention of the staff - yes we asked politely and tried many times. It was hilarious how disconnected the staff was with the clients. I could've understand if the place was packed but they were literally doing nothing and deliberately ignored us and the other guests.
To make a long story short, we sort of laughed about it together with another table of Danish guests who also never go served. We left the place after 40 minutes without having lunch, went to a great lunch place at Pl. Saint-Gery and that was that.
In other words, this place if awfull due to...
