Jalousy Bar — Restaurant in Brussels

It’s a dive bar pretending to be a speakeasy. First you need a password to enter, provided the doorman even lets you in. Then you need to pay a €10 entry fee - for a dive bar, not a club, a dive bar. The upstairs bar staff were friendly and attentive but that’s the only positive. There’s a smoking room right next to it with very poor ventilation, so you’re going to inhale all that smoke when you’re there. There is a downstairs bar with a small dance area which should be avoided at all cost. Everyone there seems drugged up, the bathrooms being the place of ‘action’ and no one even seems to be discrete about it. The whole place itself is run down, old, terrible bathrooms and nothing to write home about. Oh, and the doorman asks for a “tip” when you exit, I guess so you can be allowed back in next time you’re there....

Something has happened with this place (in a not good way) it used to be a hidden gem, now it is really unpleasant. It’s dirty and smells. Completely different music choice&DJs, that starts closer to 1 AM, that is more suitable for young techno fans in their mid 20s. If you want to spend nice evening with your friends: a) for cocktails you can find better places, with more charm, cleaner, fresher places and better menu. b) if you want to dress up and just enjoy ambiance, find another place. c)forget about dancing and having fun. It’s not there anymore. Unless you are a techno fan or have “something in your system”. Groups of people were leaving, we were one of them. 2 stars, just because staff is very nice there, that is a fact that has never changed, just the concept has...

Cocktails are absolutelly amazing! The barman is just so skilful and knowledgeable, he will craft the cocktail to match your preferences. No need to stick to the menu. Ask something off the menu and he will make it for you. The bar upstairs with the sofas is the only place worth staying in my opinion as downstairs no one respects the law and smokes indoors. Gone are the days I would accept arriving home full of smoke in my hair, clothes and lungs. Not what you would expect from a place that sells expensive cocktails and tries to portrait themselves as upscale and refined. The disrespect for the law is the only reason I am giving this place a 3 stars...
