L'Aubette — Restaurant in Brussels

What a disappointment during our walk in Brussels. We saw this cute café from the outside and entered at 4:35pm for a hot drink to warm up from the cold. First waitress was kind enough, gave us a menu saying they'll close at 5pm so we said understood, and thwt we'll hurry. Almost 8 minutes later, a second, rude waitress came over for our order, repeating they are closing soon. We asked for 2 simple coffees, and she said well we can't have any hot drinks as their machines have already been turned off for the day. Mind you, there were still at least 5 tables of patrons inside continuing to eat/drink. It was 4:43pm (I checked) so I asked why doesn't your sign say closes at 4.30pm if you've turned off your machines ? Why allow us to take our seats and look at the menu ???? Waitress just mumbled once again "we're closing" and by that time we had enough of her rudeness. Maybe change your opening hours, or hire people who don't hate customers and try to run interested patrons out...

Good food, but poor service and no allergy notes in the menu. There is way nicer places for brunch in Brussels.

I ordered a brunch: 17€ for the classic smoked salmon, avocado, cheese, boiled egg on toast. However, the bread contained seeds I was allergic to, after notifing it to the staff, I was told that there wasn't any alternative and then got systematically ignored.

Just one of the waitresses was nice enough to complain for me and offered a "pain au chocolat" that honestly, didn't match with my salty food choice.

My friend ate my bread, and I was left eating my avocado with a spoon. I understand that there can be no alternatives, but getting ignored and treated badly while you cannot enjoy what you ordered is way worse. I would not...

We are not locals and stopped there for a coffee. Service was the rudest I have ever experienced. They questioned why we are not having food. Even mocked us like “you eat at home and just come for coffee”. Like I have to apologise for having coffee in a cafe.. They mistakenly brought us different drinks than what we ordered and insisted we ordered what they thought. When asked how to pay they gave me 2 options and insisted for me to pay cash even though I was offered the card option (did pay by card in the end). I would consider going for food but with this service and rudeness ain’t no way I am going back. I did not realise good service goes with the bill. Next time I should consider buying shares in this place to be treated like...
