I had the pleasure of dining at Les Brigittines recently, and it was an absolutely delightful experience! Nestled in a charming corner of Brussels, this restaurant offers a wonderful blend of traditional Belgian cuisine with a touch of refinement.
The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a rustic yet elegant décor that immediately makes you feel at home. The staff were incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable, guiding us through the menu with enthusiasm and offering great wine pairings. For starters, I had the croquettes de crevettes, which were perfectly crispy on the outside and packed with flavor on the inside. For the main course, I opted for the waterzooi (a creamy Belgian stew with chicken), and it did not disappoint—comforting and rich, yet delicately balanced. The portion sizes were generous, and the flavors were spot on.
The dessert was another highlight; the tarte au sucre (sugar tart) was the perfect sweet ending to an already amazing meal. What I appreciated most was the intimate and cozy vibe of the place—it felt like a hidden gem, where locals come to enjoy great food and great company. Though the prices are a bit higher than casual spots, it’s totally worth it for the quality of the food and the overall experience.
I highly recommend Les Brigittines for anyone visiting Brussels and looking for an authentic Belgian meal in a warm, welcoming setting. I’ll...
Read moreTruely Authentic and Classical. I took my daughter to Les Brigittines to enjoy their ambiance and fare. It was more than I expected. This tavern was historically a post office many years ago and has been changed into a lovely, art deco, restaurant with a very comfortable atmosphere. The service was very prompt but we did not feel rushed to complete. We both ordered Menu du Marche and a bottle of wine. We had the pleasure of meeting the "maitre chef" Dirk Myny, who gave us advice on wines to select for our meal. He was very helpful and enjoyable to talk to. Our meal started with Terrine of Hare and oysters in a sauce that was amazing. This was followed by scallops and another sauce that intrigued us even more. The puree was a mystery to us but it definitely took us on another adventure. The main course was braised cheek of beef with another sauce and vegetables. Again we were mesmerized by the complexity of the plate. The vegetables were varied and all tasted amazing. The final plate was a fruit salad which didn't disappoint our palates. Chef Dyny has demonstrated his love of classical cooking with this meal. He uses produce all local from the environs and he himself is from the Brussels area. This is definitely a restaurant that a connossieur of eating should experience. Five Stars to the Chef...
Read moreWe went there for my birthday on October 21st to celebrate. While the restaurant is gorgeous, and the service great, I was not able to enjoy due to the fact that I fell severely ill from the entrée that after 15 minutes of eating the entrée, and ended up throwing up the entire time at the restaurant. Needless to say, I was not able to eat the main dish as any smell of food caused another wave of nausea and I had to run to the toilet again. In fact, I wasn't able to speak without wanting to vomit again, and couldn't voice my concerns at the restaurant.
I was severely disappointed by the fact that I got this sick from the entrée, and that my birthday was spoiled by this. I should however note that my partner loved the food he was served and was happy - so it is a disappointment that I could not try any of the food served afterwards. As such, it is a real shame, since this place has such a good reputation and a beautiful setting. I sincerely hope that this was a one time fluke, and at least judging from my partner's reaction, that the quality of the food served is of high...
