Disappointing Valentine’s Day Experience at O Sole Mio Pizzas & Pâtes, Brussels

My boyfriend and I booked a table in advance for Valentine’s Day at O Sole Mio Pizzas & Pâtes in Brussels. Upon arrival, we were seated on the terrace, which, although enclosed, was extremely cold. We were genuinely freezing, so I’d recommend dressing warmly if you plan to sit there.

On the table, there was a small bowl of olives (photo attached). At first, I assumed this was normal, but after eating them, I noticed that other guests were being served a full plate of olives along with bread. This made me wonder if our dish had simply been left over from a previous table and not replaced.

We ordered an entrée (starter), which was served without bread (photo attached). We politely asked for some, but it was never brought to us. Again, we noticed that other guests received the same dish, but with bread included. This left us feeling as if we weren’t being treated with the same level of service.

Due to the cold, we requested to be moved to another table, and fortunately, the staff accommodated our request.

For the main course, I ordered a Parmigiano pizza, while my boyfriend chose Tagliatelle. Unfortunately, my pizza arrived completely burnt on the bottom (photo attached). I was so hungry that I tried to find parts that weren’t as burnt just so I could eat something. My boyfriend didn’t enjoy his pasta either, though that could be a matter of personal taste.

For dessert, we ordered tiramisu, which was actually delicious—probably the highlight of the meal. However, we had to ask for it three times and waited nearly 20 minutes before it arrived.

The service itself was polite, with waiters being friendly and introducing us to the menu. However, given that it was Valentine’s Day, there was a fixed menu for €45, including a starter, main course, dessert, and drinks.

While I wouldn’t say the food was a 10/10, it was the small details—like the missing bread, the questionable olives, the burnt pizza, and the long waiting times—that made the experience frustrating. We constantly had to remind the staff about our orders, which left us feeling overlooked.

This was my first visit to this restaurant, and unfortunately, it will likely be my last. I wouldn’t recommend it. I’m not sure how the experience was for others, but it truly felt like we were the only ones dealing with...

Went for a team lunch on Monday and had to wait for more than 1 hour for pasta which was recommended to us over pizzas as the waiting time would be shorter (not the case). While we were waiting, no one came to us so we had to call the restaurant to come to our table. Later we received the food after a long wait and the portion sizes were so small. In scampi pasta only 3 small scampis. In the end they did not come to us offering anything to compensate for all of this and especially for the long wait. We had to ask for dessert for compensation and even that they couldn't offer us to take away. So we left without any compensation for this and definitely not coming again to this place again. Very...

One of the best meals I had in a couple months. Pizzas were delicious with fresh ingredients, thin dough on the middle and fluffy crust. Baked in stone oven which gave an extra flavour to the pizza. We ordered also very good homemade ice teas and fabulous desserts. Panna cotta had perfect consistency and was really refreshing and tiramisu was melting in your mouth. Another big plus was very friendly staff that made an extra effort to take care of us and if you're looking for a place that will make you feel like you're in Italy that's definitely the one. Price were really affordable as well. Definitely deserved 5 stars. Would give more of possible.

Grazie mille, tutto...

If you are visiting Brussels and not used to their late dinner culture, this is a 10 stars place to visit. We randomly walked in the restaurant because no where else was open and we planned to come out later to eat, being already super tired from walking. The extremely friendly staff did not mind we don’t speak French and was super intrigued with my iPhone translator. You know they are super friendly if they allowed me to modify their already super authentic dish. You know Italians won’t allow that, but I played “please”. If you are close to the out-skirt of the old town, come here.
