Al Castello Gravensteen — Restaurant in Ghent

The service was really bad. The vibe and the waiter were super unwelcoming. I’ve ordered a simple pasta carbonara that is one of a classic recipes. They have managed to ruin it by having a bad quality ingredients and just in general the whole dish was watery and had no taste of the actual cheese. The minute we got in we felt that we were pushed to leave and honestly we didn’t finished our plates. I do not recommend this place at all. They haven’t asked us on our experience, so we couldn’t even share with them their faults with us. Wasted 50 euros for nothing. Any other place would be better than here. A disgrace to an Italian cuisine...

Was told how great this place was by 2 friends. Was really looking forward to dining there. I went there (by myself ) and as soon as I walked in the Chef? Took one look at me and said we are full and VERY rudely. I looked in and there were at least 4 empty tables. I was confused, stood outside for a moment because I was still shocked at how rude he was , saw 3 groups of 2 people in each group walk up, heard him ask how many , then sat all these people at the empty tables that I apparently could not sit at being a solo diner. Great lasagna but such a shame the service was so poor. I felt like we were intruding as we were coming through the door, very poor welcome, no smile, no apologies for the disgusting fork that had been put on the table (they were appalled by the state of the fork and I know dishwasher can sometimes leave things looking dirty but still a little "sorry about that" would have been nice...). Despite the service I thoroughly enjoyed the lasagna.. It was the best one I have had! So it's such a shame they don't care about...
