In April 2025, we ordered our first Cuban dish ever: masa de cerdo frita (fried pork with spices for 65Bs). The dish was well prepared by the chef, but somehow failed to impress us. This is not a problem of Sabor Cubano, but of the Cuban cuisine. Since the US trade embargo, Cuban cuisine has adapted to what was available: rice, beans, chicken, pork, plantains and yuca, with fewer fresh herbs, spices or luxury items and little variety and innovation due to scarcity. Cuban cuisine is homestyle and focused more on sustenance than refinement, with many stews and cooked dishes and minimal use of spices, leading to dishes that are hearty but often perceived as bland by international standards. Read moreWas so excited to eat cuban food for the first time and went to the restaurant an hour earlier to discuss the the menu and stated my dietary requirements that I do not eat pork. Returned to the restaurant an hour later and ordered a bistec sandwhich which was great and rice and beans expecting the rice and beans to be vegetarian. To my shock horror after taking a few bites of the rice and beans I saw a piece of meat and asked what this was and the same waiter advised it was pork. I cannot eat pork due to religious reasons and I advised the waiter of this and at no point when ordering did he have the decency to advise the rice and beans has pork in it. It also does not mention it on the menu which is terrible as this could also happen to a vegetarian or vegan. They need to clearly label the menu and state if the side dishes are vegetarian or contain meat. Horrible experience and the waiter did not...
Read moreThis is maybe a 2.5. I don't get these good reviews but this Cuban food wasn't it. Rice was dry as Uyuni Salt flats. Bread was hardly pressed and as dry as the rice. Sandwich had one thin slice of ham and barely any pork. It was pretty sad. I am born and raised in Tampa Florida, The home of the true Cuban Sandwich. Thoroughly disappointed in my lunch. Complete waste of money. I guess in La Paz this is good cuban bcs there isn't any other Cuban food here. You might be happy if you've never had true Cuban...
