Pipa Velha Bar e Restaurante Copacabana — Restaurant in Região Geográfica Imediata do Rio de Janeiro

EDIT [Jan 8 2025] After the restaurant reply it is clear to me that they are only trying to absolve themselves from the terrible food and services. Guess what, yesterday we went to Boteco Belmonte and their ribs is MUCH better then yours. Real ribs I mean, real meat, and great price too. Boteco Belmonte address is R. Domingos Ferreira, 242 - Copacabana. Only 2 minutes walking distance from this piece of crap restaurant. Lastly, if you think you have reputation, look at my reputation evaluating restaurant everywhere in the WORLD. I know how to do this job.

Don't fall for this turist trap. We went there and ordered a Pork Ribs (Costelinha de Porco) and they gaves us what meat they had available. I took picture of the bones to proof what they served us was not ribs. Additionally, we as americans know how to recognize ribs. The worse ribs ever. The worse part now is that we know the rip off turists. The waiter was very unpolite, never asked us how the food was as well as the service. We decided not to complain because we believe writing reviews is more productive and here we are. Maybe in Brazil ribs have cartilage. Look at the picture closely and pay attention to the format of the bones. Of course, after eating whatever that was, we spent 2 days at home with food poisoning... Besides that, we were ignored by the guys which walks around offereing pastries, chicken balls, and bolinhos... extremely disappointing place. Just look cross the street and you will find a much better place and...

Not worth your time and money.

We had dinner at this restaurant, and although the staff were charming, the food was below average, and the price was far too high for what they were serving.

The issues we had:

Watery Beans - We ordered a dish with beans, but what they served was very watery, tasteless, and had borderline no beans in it. We brought it to the waiter's attention, and they sent a little more beans, but still watery and tasteless - It felt like they were trying to double their yield by watering down the food.

Moqueca - I had a plantain moqueca, which is my favourite, and the moqueca itself was nice, but the creamy mash that came with it tasted like some powdery mixture. To me, it had neither the consistency nor the taste of any vegetable.

Cocktail Refazenda - The cocktail description sounded nice and refreshing, but it turned out to be a sugar bomb. The sweetness of it was overpowering.

We did not mention the cocktail or moqueca; we only took issue with the dismal beans they served. The waiter informed the manager about it, but the manager said nothing, not even a hello.

We paid our bill and left. I will not return to this place, and I don't recommend...

Eu sou cliente antiga do Pipa Velha, sempre que estou no Rio frequento o local. Ontem estivemos lá para um almoço e pedimos o prato de atum na crosta de gergelim, foi uma decepção enorme! O atum estava duro, seco, sem sabor, com um gosto estranho e enjoativo. Em nossa mesa foram dois atuns, os dois estavam igualmente ruins, então não foi só uma questão com um prato, quem fez o atum não sabia preparar o peixe. Passou muito do ponto de cozimento! A gente estava com pouco tempo, por isso decidimos simplesmente não pagar o serviço em vez de pedir pra trocar o prato, a minha filha pediu o bife de chorizo que estava OK. Na hora de pagar a conta, o marido comentou que não pagaria o serviço na conta devido à péssima experiência com o atum e o garçom mal educado ficou bravo além da conta, quase entrou numa discussão com meu marido, o que piorou ainda mais a experiência do almoço. Eu ia pagar o serviço pra ele de qualquer forma, só não queríamos incluir no preço pago ao restaurante. Dei os 20 reais em dinheiro pra ele por entender que ele não tinha nada a ver com o atum HORROROSO que nos foi servido (parecia um pedaço de borracha dura na boca e a crosta estava queimada com gosto de fritura rançosa), mas ele foi muito mal educado quando meu marido comentou que o atum estava péssimo, começou a perder o controle e achei ele extremamente despreparado para receber a opinião do cliente. Enfim, ontem o Pipa Velha perdeu clientes antigos, até eu estou desacreditada em falar isso sobre um dos bares/restaurantes que costumava ser um dos meus favoritos do Rio. Adicionando aqui, o serviço é opcional, e eu paguei em dinheiro diretamente ao garçom, mesmo ele não merecendo, tamanha sua falta de modos....
