I heard about this restaurant from my host at Twain hotel apartment rooms in the same street. I was pleasantly surprised....the old traditional houses cobbled together that make up the restaurant are really amazing. The food was second to none....I had a beautiful mushroom soup, followed by the roasted tender melt in the mouth, (St. GEORGES style ), lamb pieces on a bed of vegetable rice with crisp lettuce salad with cucumber and radish slices, along with a bowl of Incredibly nice mint yogurt. The meal was one of most expensive on menu.. .but the portion size, well balanced meal is one of the best lamb dishes I have ever tasted....it was heavenly bliss....and a must for food lovers. I will definitely return for the fantastic caring service, atmosphere, and of course their fantastic food. 20th October: I returned this evening for another fantastic meal and service. I decided upon the LAMB PILAFF.....cooked to the traditional Turkish recipe.....it was absolutely divine.....I fully recommend any of the lamb dishes with a glass of the fine Rose wine.....I wish these people had a place in Veliko Turnovo where I came from today.....I will definitely eat nowhere else in Sofia......amazing food cooked with the finest tastiest ingredients.....the professionalism of the waiters, especially young Nickolai.....is...
Read more1000% tourist trap! And shamelessly so! It is full with patrons because of sponsored advertisements in the tourist websites. Atmosphere: Disney Land style over exaggerated parody of traditional decor. Management and service: brisk, overworked, understaffed and impersonal. In total contrast to the traditional Bulgarian hospitality you encounter in the local joints where the hosts would go out of their way to make their guests welcome. Also they indirectly kick you out hours before the advertised closing time. Another words, this establishment is operated as a money making machine providing minimal effort. Entertainment: the so called musicians are outside contractors shamelessly harassing the guests and demanding, I repeat, not expecting but demanding huge tips way above the customary accepted in Bulgaria. If they don’t receive what they think they can squeeze out of you, they throw an embarrassing fits in front of everyone. Food: I am absolutely flabbergasted! Food was totally inedible. The meats tasted microwave defrosted, cooked way an advance, reheated, smelly and WAY over salted. INEDIBLE! We left everything! Total disappointment. Judge for yourself but my suggestion is to stay away and find a local low key joint where the clientele...
Read moreHadjidraganov's houses is a must for everyone who wants to immerse in traditional Bulgarian settings, food, and culture.
The restaurant consists of separated areas, each representing a region in Bulgaria, and yet makes you feel cozy. All the "houses" are richly decorated with authentic 19th-century Bulgarian pots, cutlery etc. which make it atmospheric and authentic.
But more than the décor, it’s the cuisine that really stands out. The menu offers a huge variety of traditional, tasty dishes, with some of the largest portions I have ever seen.
On our first night, my husband and I had the slow-cooked lamb. The portion was just right and it was exceptionally delicious. We finished with chocolate cakes – absolutely yum! That made us want to return the next evening.
The second time, my husband ordered a very large skewer of meats and sausages, beautifully served with salads, beans, and vegetables. It was both generous and delicious. I had brain and tongue cooked with spices – and it was very nice indeed.
Entertainment was good, adding to the authentic atmosphere, and the staff were hardworking and attentive, and friendly throughout.
Overall, Hadzhidraganovite Kashti is a wonderful experience – authentic, hearty, and memorable. Highly...
