I was pleasantly surprised at both how great the food was and the beer too. I had a chicken sandwich and fries and a copper ale. I stayed only one evening at Banff and was looking for a place to dine.
I am one of those guys who sometimes just wants a simple good old sandwich - none of those fancy Mexican, Italian, Indian (even though I am of Indian origin), stuff. So, I was specifically looking for a burger and sandwich place. I only eat chicken and cooked fish. So, some places serving only beef or pork are a no go for me.
I looked at their menu outside, and found what I wanted and went in. The attendant, seeing that I was alone, asked me if I wouldn't mind sitting at the bar and that was fine by me. The place was not too crowded. There was some sports on TV, which is generally ideal in my view.
I am not big on alcohol but, I saw the copper ale and was tempted. I was nervous about it. However, I quickly found that there was nothing to be nervous about. The sandwich was awesome - probably the best I have had in a long time. The Copper Ale - too good! I also got a chocolate milkshake, and man was that one of the best milkshakes I have had?
The service was excellent too. The bartenders, attendant, and waiters were all very friendly. It was the right balance - appropriate level of friendliness combined without being bothered much while you are eating/drinking. Now, that is service, and exactly what I wanted at the end of the day when I was tired as hell.
I hope to come to Banff again and when I do, I plan to stop...
Read moreDecided on Eddie's while we were in Banff, we wanted something fairly quick as we had lots of plans for the day. We ordered 4 burgers to go and were told it would be a 10-15 minute wait. I popped out for a few minutes to look at other shops, then returned around the 10 minute mark. I unfortunately had to wait an extra 15-20 minutes for our order. Normally, not the worst thing, but this gave me the opportunity to have a front row seat to watch the burgers be made. I watched one of the line cooks eat half of a burger while in the kitchen, dipping it into sauces and rotating it around in his hands, then continue to assemble about 8 different burgers without washing his hands. I was shocked. He then wrapped them and packed them straight into our to go bag. I told the waiter what I saw and how disappointed I was. I was then told he "would have a talk with the guys" as if this is a regular occurrence. I wasn't even offered an apology. These 4 burgers cost over $100. I would've hoped, at the very least, they would be made in a hygienic way. For the quality, we ordered 3 elk burgers and 1 chicken burger. I was told the elk burgers were ok, but definitely nothing special. Sadly, my chicken burger didn't taste like anything and was quite bland. The inside of the restaurant was very small, and people were bumping tables just trying to get around. Overall, this was a...
Read moreBusy place, but accommodating.....very tight quarters for eating.......perhaps enough room for 40 diners (including this unusual small "rumpus room" ..... a 4-sided bench that you literally have to crawl over the seats to sit at the table). Be careful navigating the front door; there is barely room between the bar and opposing tables to squeeze two people through 🤣
Service was decent; seating-to-eating time was about 20 minutes. The Red, White, and Blue Burger was quite delightful, being delivered in a medium-well cook (the way ALL burgers should be). Fries were crispy and well seasoned. The gravy was likely not homemade, but still quite tasty......especially when dipping the last couple of bites of the burger.
Brush up on your accents; it seemed that most of the staff have Australian/New Zealand/South African accents.
Like everywhere else in Banff, there is ZERO parking....but there are several pay parking lots within easy walking distance.....$6/hour. There IS free parking at the Banff Train Station if you don't mind the brief walk to downtown.
Also, like everything else in Banff, expect to pay 25-50% more than anywhere else in Alberta.......it is, after all, a seasonal tourist-driven economy, so anticipate a little sticker shock.
