First Street Market in Calgary offers a vibrant and diverse dining experience, bringing together nine local culinary vendors under one roof. This open-concept food hall features a centralized bar and an inviting patio that opens onto Haultain Park, making it an ideal spot for any meal—from breakfast to dinner—and a perfect gathering place for friends and family.
During my recent visit, I had the pleasure of dining at La Mano, one of the standout vendors at First Street Market. La Mano specializes in handcrafted, chef-driven fresh pasta made with love and served in a variety of delectable dishes.
I opted for the Rigatoni with Vodka Sauce and Burrata, a dish that exemplifies La Mano’s commitment to quality and flavor. The bronze die-extruded rigatoni was perfectly al dente, enveloped in a rich rosé sauce infused with garlic and chilies, providing a delightful kick. The crowning glory was the fresh burrata, adding a creamy richness that elevated the entire dish. The heirloom basil and a drizzle of olive oil provided the perfect finishing touches, creating a harmonious blend of flavors that left a lasting impression.
Beyond the exceptional food, First Street Market’s atmosphere is both lively and welcoming. The communal seating and open layout foster a sense of community, inviting patrons to explore the diverse culinary offerings available. Whether you’re in the mood for fresh pasta, gourmet breakfast, or a refreshing cocktail, First Street Market caters to a wide array of tastes and preferences.
In summary, First Street Market, and particularly La Mano, provide a remarkable dining experience that celebrates Calgary’s local food scene. The combination of diverse culinary options, a full-service bar, and a vibrant atmosphere makes it a must-visit destination for both locals and...
Read moreTraveling cross country from Minnesota to Banff with a family of 6 (4 teenagers). Due to innumerable struggles agreeing upon a restaurant, type of food, time of day, what color the sky is…we agreed to come here for the multiple options it offered - seemed like a something-for-everyone sort of place.
Pros: indeed, something for everyone. Entirely family friendly and nice staff. The Indian food was outstanding and among the six of us there were none who complained. The facility itself was clean with solid/clean washrooms. And so nice and bright inside, with doors open to a big park behind it.
Cons: the Korean chicken shop was less than helpful when I tried to order. So much so that I went to the Indian food stand (score!) instead. Would have loved to try Korean bbq chicken, but staff seemed not to want to be bothered. Oh, well. Only other complaint was the wafting tobacco and cannabis smoke that floated freely through the place. Not so much as to be a serious bother, and I’m sure it came from outside. But that is one of my biggest irritants, as it is to my family as well.
Finally: it’s off the main thoroughfares if you’re just rolling through town. However I’m glad that we found this place, and if you’re trying to stave off the pre-dinner meltdown that inevitably hits us at one point or another on our family road trips, it’s worth the drop through the downtown area to...
Read moreFirst time coming here... really cool concept; Calgary needs more places like this! It's a posh food court on the main floor of a multi condo complex (Underwood)
The variety is amazing... it has something for everyone (Indian, Italian, Vietnamese, burgers, pizzas, breakfast, coffee, dessert, etc..)
Came here at lunch time, weren't too many customers, yet the wait times were longer than your normal food court... most likely because of the slightly higher quality in food service... and limited staff.
Ate at the Moose and Poncho Mexican place and Hi-5 burger place. The soft shell tacos (beef and pork) were delicious but the churros were overcooked (too brittle). The crispy chicken burger was very tasty and the fries were fresh (this meal seemed overpriced).
The prices are definitely closer to restaurant pricing so be prepared for that. Don't expect to get your food right away either.
The washrooms were plenty, private (with individual sinks), and very clean. The overall place has a nice vibe to it. Love the big screen TVs in the main area next to the bar.
Overall it was a nice place to experience; will come back again for sure, and can't wait to see this...
