When Bret says "the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be", he is NOT talking about his bar. We hit this place up before a concert, and left very underwhelmed... The venue is GREAT for memorabilia and nostalgia - tons of pics, stats, belts, gear, all things Hard, Stampede Wrestling and Bret's career. A few of the TV's stream old matches constantly as well, so there is a lot to look at and discuss for sure. Staff were friendly enough, but pretty aloof. There was a manager going around double checking on everyone as well, even as the place filled up with patrons. The drink menu is pretty lack luster, was especially disappointed to see that a bar based on a Calgary treasure barely utilizes any of the MANY local breweries & distilleries. For food, the Event Menu, is all they offer when there is an event at the Dome, was also extremely disappointing. We had previously looked online and were excited to try a few items that are not offered on the limited menu. As a random aside, the website is full of some pretty funny spelling errors. We settled on the Buffalo Chicken Ranch Fries to start, then I ordered the KFC Rice Bowl as my main, hubs ordered the Crispy Chicken Sandwich and made it "Calgary Hot" for the extra $1. The app came out pretty quickly - a big bowl of soggy yet somehow undercooked fries, some dry chicken pieces, and and some buffalo & ranch drizzled on top. Once we mixed it up, the buffalo & ranch at least added some flavor and made it edible. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to enjoy it as an App because only minutes later, our mains were delivered to the table, our Server shrugged and said "there were no other orders in, so it came out really fast" as she dropped it all down and walked away. The KFC Rice Bowl - a big bowl of rice, topped with a ton of what appeared to be premade chicken strips diced up, 3 pieces of cucumber, a tablespoon of shredded carrots and some sauces... The menu says there was to be green onion & cilantro as well, but mine had no green at all. They have NO business calling this KFC, I can only assume that's because they put a Gochujang glaze on it, so that means they can call it Korean fried chicken. Either way, while there was a significant portion of it, it was dry and soggy at the same time, like it had been fried at one point, but then reheated in the microwave for service. Fortunately, the glaze and the Sriracha aioli were flavorful and made the dish edible under the circumstance of being there specifically in advance of an event and needing to eat. The Crispy Chicken Burger was slightly better, the added Calgary Hot sauce was tasty (not hot though, at all). Same chicken in this one, but it was not nearly as dry. The side of fries were the same as the appie, bland, undercooked but still somehow limp and ice cold even though they came out quickly. All in all, we will not be back unless we find ourselves again there for an event and did not plan ahead for alternatives. The wrestling nostalgia will only take you so far. Everyone was friendly, but in a world where our hard earned money does not go nearly as far as it used to, places like this are...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe charcuterie is bologna! ā¦. unfortunately literallyā¦
Upon walking in the staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is cool, but this is unfortunately where the good stops. They are so friendly that I do feel bad writing this review (and my boyfriend is heartbroken because he likes Brett Hart so much), but for the love of god please improve your food š
I walked in incredibly hungry and after 45 minutes finally received my appetizer (charcuterie) along with our meals (lasagna and wings). Even my stomach which had started to eat itself at this point, paused for a moment when charcuterie with LITERAL BOLOGNA was placed in front of me. This was the worst charcuterie Iāve had in my life, worse than a charcuterie board made by a college student who hasnāt been to the grocery store in 2 months. There were no crackers (only garlic-ish bread?) and half the meat was bologna. Although, embarrassing as it is, I still ate it all, so I can confirm the whole board was sub par (at best).
The lasagna, not surprisingly, also very sub par. Lasagna is my favourite food and I would like to think I have quite a low bar for what constitutes delicious lasagna (it is pasta and cheese after all⦠how can you go wrong?). I would eat this lasagna again if I was hungry, but would chose most other foods before this.
My partner said the wings were very āmehā, he didnāt finish them and didnāt want to take any home (despite being perhaps the worlds biggest wing lover and a former chicken wing competitive eater).
We arenāt drinkers so I cannot comment on the quality of those. The bathrooms were clean and again, the staff are very nice!! I would say if you are looking for a place to get drinks after work, this would probably be a great option! Although, my suggestion would be to go on a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was visiting Calgary, and was excited to visit a bar that was explicitly branded towards professional wrestling. So on February 18th, I messaged asking if they were showing AEWās āRevolutionā PPV on March 9th (which is today) and was assured it was. I also saw it was promoted through their Instagram story but honestly cannot remember the date
I arrived an hour early, while the pre-show is going on for the PPV expecting it to be on one of the many televisions so I could start drinking and having fun. None of the televisions had it on, so I asked the very kind server if they were showing it and she gave an uncertain āyesā. Could not find it on the television and asked the person who I assumed was her supervisor, and she said āthey were not showing itā
I showed the server the messages exchanged between myself and the Instagram account and she went to her supervisor with a picture of these messages. The supervisor says she has to check whether it was ordered or not. She informs me that it was not ordered, and that she apologizes and offers a free drink which I decline because Iād like to start watching the PPV before it starts.
I do not blame the Server, nor the supervisor who did their job to the best of their ability and commend them for really good customer service.
Management needs to have their plans figured out and cannot out good employees in bad positions like they did. I cannot see myself coming back to this bar because I cannot support a business that puts out their employees to dry like this.
After spending over $20 to get there and back from my air bnb, it led to a disappointing night, one I was...
