Mr. Sun Tea — Restaurant in Calgary

Magical first time experience and a “you had to be there” moment tonight! This was mine and my partner’s first time trying this place, and it quickly became one of our favourites after what we experienced!

First, it’s located in a quiet part of east village, and upon entering, we were met with a diverse menu with delicious options, and live music from two talented musicians who were also customers casually playing on their guitars! After ordering, I whispered to my partner, “now THIS is a REAL bubble tea place” after observing that this place had so many fun activities to do with friends. There were board games, items to draw and colour with, customers’ art posted all over the walls, a 2 player vintage Super Nintendo console and drinking games in the corner. We decided on trying the console, had a blast playing, and enjoyed our delicious drinks over some great live music. But the best part was still yet to come!

A young couple came in shortly after and sat on the table across my partner and me, and started conversing with the two musicians. Somewhere between the games my partner and I were playing, one of the musicians suddenly got up and offered his guitar over to the girlfriend. Intrigued, we watched as she and the musician began singing “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran beautifully together. From then until close, we watched as 4 strangers went from, well… being strangers to being connected through their love for music. It was so magical! Even the owner began singing along with them! And I’m so happy he and his business allow for such beautiful, human moments to happen organically like this.

I cried in the car after thanking everyone and telling them to come back next weekend (haha)

I found out about this place in December and after trying many drinks I have to say, it is my favorite stop maybe even the best in Calgary! They have special handmade pearls that do not dissapoint. They are not like the ordinary black pearls you get, instead they are softer but also chewy. My favorite flavors are the Matcha (only available sometimes as it is a special) and Brown sugar pearls. They pair really well with non-fruity drinks.

The Mr. Sun Green Tea may sound weird to people at first but it is definetly worth the try since it has a unique taste. For smoothie lovers the Mr. Sun Mango or Mr. Sun Special are good drinks to try but they are a bit sweet to my liking and the sugar levels are fixed. (I normally get all my drinks half sweet) Passion Fruit and Grapfruit Mojito would make delicious and refreshing summer drinks.

I would reccomend the Mango Pearl and Golden Brown sugar Pearl Milk teas if you really want to enjoy the pearls. I also found that the teas also have stronger flavours compared to other places where teas are watery.

The Milk Foam teas are my current favorites at the moment. Its like having cheesecake with tea. However, the sweet and salty contrast can be odd for some people especially with added flavor teas. I would recommend the Sweet Cloud Milk Foam for those who might not like the sweet and salty difference. They also come with a lid that allows you to sip your drink from the side(the best thing for milk foam lovers) or to mix and drink with a straw.

It's my go to spot and I want to be able to try everything! I hope they come up with a loyalty card of some sort for frequent visitors. They do have a special game if you spend 10$ or more but it's hard when you only want to...

Personally I absolutely adore Mr.Sun’s bubble tea. Their hand crafted boba tastes like Turkish delight( but it isn’t too sweet). Although they don’t have plain boba with out brown sugar or flavouring, the fact that they have handmade boba, just cancels that con out. Secondly with most of their fruit teas they add in the real fruit. To add on to that I ordered the pineapple black fruit tea and while I was sipping away I felt a pineapple piece pop into my mouth, it was a surprise for me. Also I won’t forget to mention how good their customer service is. They have a really cool game to get a discount on something ( buy 3 get 1 free or get one topping free) depending on what you get. I have never seen costumer service like that before at a bubble tea shop. Lastly there prices a really outstanding in my opinion compared to all the other boba places I have been to Mr. Sun is way more cheaper.
