We saw this restaurant on our way to Chinook. Since myself if a huge fun of bamboo skewer hot pot, we went it for dinner right away. We are totally satisfied by the taste. We used to visit the city where this dish originated from, and we'd like to say Shangshangqian really surprises us with its authentic flavour. I see some people confused by the size of the portion, but the point of this kind of hot pot is the full flavour in each convenient bite, and that's why its popular. I'm a spicy person, so we ordered the most spicy one, which is amazing. If you like spicy but not so good at it, try the mild one. Things you have to try are the different kinds of beef skewers. Try a little bit of everything then you know what you like. This is also recommended by the staffs, I like how they try to help you instead of pushing you to order. Always, always order the Szechuan rice pudding as a side dish, it relieved the spicy feeling a lot and it tastes good, too! Another big surprise is the smoked and marinated tofu, omg, it tastes so good, the texture, the flavour and everything. Maybe not everyone's into it, but give it a try! We feel like the people there really put efforts into everything they make, which definitely makes us wanna go back. One recommendation I would say is the price. The skewers and side dishes are OK, however we were expecting the pot (broth) to be cheaper. It's kinda reasonable considering the flavour, but it's also a little shocked to see the price just after a few skewers. It might be much more appealing with a lower broth price so people can enjoy more skewers. Just a little complaint ^-^ The owner and the staff are very considerate and nice, the service is really good! We hope more people can support this place so we can keep the authentic...
Read more-BEWARE! $70 FOR LITERAL TRASH!! 4 orders of smoked chicken, 2 marinated.. got 4 orders of 1/2 chicken CARCASSES only BONES no meat. Looked like someone ate it before we got it!! NO JOKE! Not enough meat to feed 1 person if you picked at all 4 orders! - Szchewan Pork was overcooked and dried out and hard as a rock. -Black sugar rice pudding had no rice no pudding only a bowl of cold gelatinous liquid..Stock? with a couple of red beans on the bottom, sesame seeds on top. Not a proferred peanut to be seen. WORST THING I EVER ORDERED ON UBEREATS and they are in your Best of Uber list???? And no refund for this? THEY SENT THEIR GARBAGE LOOK AT THE PICTURE OF WHAT WE GOT VS THE MENU ALL BONES. I think they cut off the meat and sent the bones by mistake instead? Sure not something to share with the family or a BBQ like the description said. And UberEats won't give a refund 😢
**UPDATE: After declining a refund, once I was finally able to submit a review to the restaurant, UberEats emailed and gave me an online credit for the amount of my tip and said they will refund the cost in 5-7 days. The restaurant gave me a $6 coupon on my next order within next 30 days. ( Respectfully, we decline. But I promise, anytime I buy a deli chicken at the grocery store and make soup from the carcass I will think of Skewer Hot Pot.)
**UPDATE 2: Wow. The condescending response from the restaurant and the misleading pictures and description of the items (previously attached) speak volumes more then I ever could. Hopefully others will make their own judgement from our awful awful experience and photographic proof and stay away from this place and its expensive chicken carcasses. There are far better less pricy options for a real...
Read moreHad dinner here tonight and it was AMAZING!!!
A little different than the average hot pot place in that you order by the peice, rather than the plate but we found we really like this way. It allowed us to get a wider variety of things to try and the portion sizes that suited us best. We tried the half and half broth which was wonderful. Also the crispy pork appatizer was amazing. Honestly we would go back just for that dish. We ordered several dips (the house special was tangy, spicy and absolutely my new fav). The dips are very much large enough to share. We each ordered a sesame one and by the end we had only eaten just over half of one of them. We also ordered a variety of meats, seafood, tofu, vegi, fungi and noodles. It was all excellent.
The serving staff was also very attentive and made sure we didn't have any questions. Made sure our water jug was always full, which I really appreciate. And the place was very clean and well kept.
As for price, we both came in very hungry and ate until absolutely stuffed and spent $33 each, including a dessert. We are very happy with this place and will be back...
