The Dog & Duck Public House and Restaurant — Restaurant in Calgary

My friends came up from Edmonton this past weekend. We went to this restaurant to enjoy the patio with their pup on the lovely sunny Saturday afternoon. Once inside there was this awful encounter where the owners were saying the patio is closed, they were FIGHTING AMONGST each other about whether they were open, then abruptly started to demand our proof of vaccine. The group felt uncomfortable and chose to leave the restaurant as we were uncomfortable with their INCREDIBLY POOR GREETING. We left a review of our experience and the owners responded with accusations of us being 'liars' and 'antvaxxers'.

For the record our group has been more compliant then most and were some of the first to recieve our vaccinations. WE ARE FULLY VACCINATED. We had our vaccine cards and ID ready in hand. Also, shortly after we went to the Marda loops brewery where we enjoyed food and drinks on the patio with excellent service. Highly recommended.

One of our group members was a regular and had recommended this place as it was once one of her favourites. She is now embarrassed and regrets ever taking us there. I'm embarrassed that our city has a place of service with such lack of accountability and outwardly attacks people who leave honest reviews. We will not be returning and advise you do the same. I hope management takes a moment to consider their actions here instead of replying hastily and embarrassing...

Honestly so disappointed in my short experience at The Dog & Duck. I was really excited to try it out, as the reviews were promising and I love the feel of a friendly neighbourhood watering hole. This place is not that. My friends and I sat down at a table, the atmosphere was extremely quiet, and we immediately became the loudest in the almost empty room as one of the members of our party was deaf and we have to talk a little louder for her to hear us. We had menus thrown down on our table without so much as a hello. When the server finally came to take our drink order, she was visibly annoyed. When I ordered a drink, she chose that moment to use the snippiest tone to ask us for our ID’s and acted surprised when we were all in our mid to late twenties. When one of my friends chose a beer that they were out of, she rudely told her “we’re out” and then got impatient and left to make the first two orders without even asking the fourth person at the table if she’d like a drink. Honestly, thank you for doing that. It gave us an excellent opportunity to choose a different restaurant. The drink was lovely, the food looks excellent from online, and it’s such a shame that the service is so terrible. I’m assuming the two people who provided such a negative experience were the owners, and we may not have been their regular crowd, but I won’t recommend this establishment to anyone, and I certainly...

I will never recommend this place to anyone, nor will I come back. It was an absolute nightmare!

The owner was 45 mins late to open the restaurant. He wasn't nice to me or my friend when we walked into the restaurant. We seated ourselves and the tables were sticky and gross. He didn't even wipe them down when I mentioned it to him. He told us that if we didn't like it, then sit somewhere else.

After waiting 30 minutes we waved for him to come over so we could order food and get some water.

When the water arrived we noticed there was food particles in it and also on our cutlery. We we asked if we could get new cutlery/water he said he was too busy.

We were the only 2 people in the restaurant the entire time. He didn't ask us what we wanted to refills or anything else. He seemed to be having a really bad day like he didn't want us there.

When the food arrived our Halibuts were thin, it had no taste and were freezer burnt. We asked the manager about it. He said that's the way the fish is. If you don't like it then you should have ordered something else and walked away. When I politely asked for something else he grabbed the basket out of my hands and threw my fork on the table. I was completely shocked that he did that. The only reason we came here is because I had a Groupon.

After this visit I will never return and will tell everyone not...
