Let me begin by saying I have ordered takeout from this restaurant several times and I have never been disappointed, even big orders of over $200 for a big family introduction to Indian food. Never disappointed - that was until tonight.
I placed an order for Chicken tikka masala, Butter chicken, tandoori chicken, two orders of rice and two orders of naan at approximately 630pm and it was ready as promised within 20 minutes. Price was about $42 including tax. I never balk at the price because the quality of food has always been top notch. The food appeared as always, great aromas, adequate portions and fresh cooked naan still steaming from the oven. My wife and I made our plates and sat down to eat. Immediately I noticed the chicken tikka masala was bland, very little to no spice, no seasoning and just tasteless. I tried the tandoori chicken, and unless you told me differently I would have thought I was eating par boiled and then baked chicken, painted red with no flavor or spice. Although it looked exactly as it had the numerous times I've ordered it in the past, it had no flavor, completely dried out, and underwhelming to say the least. My wife complained that her butter chicken was bland and questioned if I got the food from our 'usual' place. I don't normally write reviews, but I have written reviews for this restaurant in the past raving about the food, taste, quality, speed from order to pick up - all great things and felt everyone should know. Tonight I am beyond disappointed, to me it seemed rushed, all the food had no developed flavor, the tandoori chicken seemed like it was just plain chicken dipped in sauce and cooked, with no marinating or slow roasting that develops the deep tandoori flavor I have come to love and expect from this place. I don't know if you changed chefs, ran out of food and just quick cooked some to prepare the order, or what, but I am deeply disappointed with tonight's meal and hope to hear a response to this review from the owners of this restaurant to explain why the quality has gone down so far and what they are doing, if anything, to...
Read moreBest Indian in Ontario! A restaurant that has 5/5 stars between 12 reviewers and only 1 poor sole rating it a 1... You Gotta Eat Here!!
This is by far the very best tasting Indian food in the Kitchener / Waterloo / Cambridge area, possibly all of Ontario, why?
Because the butter chicken is cooked to perfection with a savoury, not a sweet, sauce like its supposed to be. The rice is flavoured with saffron and jasmine, as well as the amazing tandoori chicken made from home made vs store bought seasoning. Finally the Garlic naan is fluffy, soft, cooked, and not burnt.
But the best thing is this: the cooks sing in the kitchen!! This reminds me of when I was in India where happy folks made authentic cuisine with full flavour, but not the heat that burns your mouth off!
The price is Goldilocks! Just right! $8.99 for the Bombay platter which comes with butter chicken, Rogan Josh (lamb) Dal (which I substitute for palak paneer), rice and naan! --- Hint: Double butter chicken it, and upgrade to garlic Naan and you're on the way to flavour town!
Its not all you can eat, but after just 1 platter of the above you can't eat any more.. however if you wanted to its cheap enough to order 2 more rounds if you are that gluttonous!
Additional plates of awesomeness are: Chef's special Byrianni, Lamb Byrianni, Shrimp Masala, and the mixed veg dishes... so good you can't believe your eating vegetarian!
Finally the staff here are amazing, friendly, know you by first name if you're a regular and treat you with fast courteous service. But the kudos goes to the hard working chefs in the back, after all without them there would be no review!
I've been to over 100 Indian restaurants throughout Ontario, made websites for a few of them and this is the Best one by far, next only to Tandoori...
Read moreFirst of all, I am an Indian (from India) so I know exactly what Indian food tastes like as I have been eating it my entire life. I ordered Shahi Paneer, Mixed Vegetables, Dhaal, and 2 orders of Raita. The restaurant didn't give us one order of raita and when I called them they tried to place the blame on the SkiptheDishes driver. It clearly says in the app that food accuracy is the responsibility of the restaurant.
Second, the dhaal. It is FULL of cream and other nastiness that I cannot describe. I have had dhaal in my house since I was a baby and I can tell you with confidence that the dhaal is not supposed to be that creamy. It was nasty.
Third, the mixed vegetables was all mashed up and didn't taste good and the shahi paneer tasted like it had as much sugar as a bottle of coke.
Only their naan was tasty. Will not be eating from this...
