A cozy little place with a nice atmosphere and live music. The band was tight playing classic rock songs and it was a perfect setting for a Valentines Day dinner.
We ordered the Cornish Hen, Roasted Carrots, Pont Neuf Potatoes and Smoked Cheese Curds. They were all spectacular. The biggest point to make about the food is that the flavours were just perfectly balanced. No flavours overwhelmed your palette and that says a lot since there were some dangerously strong ingredients they are playing with in these dishes.
The carrots were our favourite(Weird, right?). The balance of the perfectly cooked carrots, ricotta with a subtle but complimentary lemon sauce was fantastic. Add to that some pistachios with a middle eastern spice blend and I can honestly say that this is the best carrot dish that I have ever had.
The pont neuf potatoes were just perfectly cooked and crispy yet fluffy at the same time. This was probably due to the triple fry. The truffle aioli worried me because truffle can be so over-powering. My worries were unfounded when I tasted the aioli and found that the truffle was nuanced and delicious.
The smoked cheese curds were also nicely balanced. Crispy and chewy with a hint of smoke. The tomato sauce was not too sweet and perfect consistency for dipping. My only criticism of the food was the smoked cheese curds and this is definitely minor. The tomato sauce was served with a basil leaf in the dish for garnish. I would much rather have the basil roughly chopped and sprinkled over the entire dish of simply place on top of the sauce. I love basil and I ended up not eating it because it would have been awkward to rip it up with my hands in order to enjoy it. That may just be personal preference though.
This chef knows how to balance a dish. Kudos to the chef.
I was surprised by the food pricing, in a good way. Only a single entree over $30 and it was steak. That is very reasonable for a fine dining experience like this. Generic chains are charging prices like this for re-heated frozen food.
We had cocktails which are $14-$20 dollars. To me that is expensive but cocktails always are. They were good but nothing spectacular. We also enjoyed a nice italian bottle of white wine which we thought was fairly priced.
I would absolutely return here. I see no reason to go to a place like the Cambridge Mill for a fine dining experience(other than the view). The Mill menu is so vanilla and the food is good but...
Read moreWent for the first time this past week with some friends. WOW. I am already ready to return! I LOVED the atmosphere. There was live music and it started early which was apreciated. We ordered the lavender margarita, whiskey, the woodfire drink ( a few) and many glasses of wine. . We ordered the tuna tar tar which is delightful. We orderd the duck salad. It was plain but so refreshing! The cheese balls are a must. For dinner we had the artic char. This is one of the best meals I have ever had in my entire life and I will be coming back for more. Please do not take it off your menu. We had the loveliest waitress and I wish I could remember her name. Shawna? She was delightful. The only feedback I have is that the drinks were inconistant with their description. We order the maragita and it was about 1/4 the glass ( VERY little). The next time it was full. WEIRD. Ordered another cocktail and it came with none of the items listed( pineapple, cherry, etc). The huge ice cubes take up the whole glass so that increases the look of volume. But, loved the ice cubes. If I am paying a lot of $$ for a drink please give me worth that. Dessert was amazing. These chefs KNOW what they are doing and the manager was VERY attentive. Our business is behind Gaslight so we frequent the square and we are in love with this new addition! I reccomend coming here but leave some artic char for me! Do not miss out...
Read moreOur server Sarah was very attentive and friendly and the atmosphere was fantastic. Appetizer was spicy tuna tartare on crispy sushi rice that was really really great. For our main we ordered mussels with fries from the appetizer list, Moules-frites if you’re classy like me. I suspect the French fries are not real French fries; The chef has somehow managed to make potato out of an angel’s kiss wrapped in pixie dust and pure happiness. The aioli that comes with the fries tastes like falling in love for the first time. My wife has suggested working through the entire menu but I know in my heart that next time I go there I’m just ordering fries for my appetizer and fries for my main followed by fries for dessert.
*french fry update! I’m not deleting this post because the service and atmosphere is still wonderful and I don’t want to take away from that BUT the French fries are not the same at all, basically one step up from air fryer fries topped with parm. The black garlic aioli served with the fries is exceptional though.
Still loved our visit but get the hummus instead...
