I hate having to write this 1 star review because my wife and I have been a patron of this restaurant for years. This was our #1 place for jjamppong and jjajangmyeon in the entire Vancouver area. Their noodles were the best - just the right texture where it slightly bouncy when you bite into it. Chewy yet smooth. Also, their control over the flame was perfect with a superb smoky flavour that is hard to find outside of Korea. My wife loved this place and we went at least once a month, if not twice. So we know their food well.
Unfortunately, the restaurant just changed chefs and our meal tonight was a complete disaster. It was not a particularly busy night but the food was so slow. Entire tables of patrons were leaving without their food. It was getting so bad that you can hear the kitchen staff having verbal arguments from the dining area.
Most importantly, the food was laughably bad. We both could not bring ourselves to eat more than a few bites of the food. It was just that bad.
The smoky flavour? Gone. Chewy and delicious noodles? Gone. The quality of the ingredients was dismal as well. You can tell that the new chef's emphasis is on profit margins vs everything else. Jjamppong is supposed to be a seafood dish and their old version was my wife's comfort dish. Well the new version has less than half of the old seafood and the broth is tasteless. No depth of flavour. Plus you can tell that the ingredients are not fresh. They look old.
The jjajanmyeon was so bad that I could not eat more than a couple of bites. I had better tastings MREs in the army. Actually, I can produce the same results at home with Chapagetti - the instant noodle version for less than a dollar.
In fact, that's what the new chef might as well make. Instant noodle versions and sell them at the reduced price. That way, the food would be delivered faster and people's expectations will be managed. If not, the guy needs to find a new career because being a cook/chef is not his calling.
As for my wife and I, we're going to try to find the new restaurant where the old chef moved to. If anyone knows, please...

I visited this restaurant around 4:30 pm, which is a bit early for dinner. A female server welcomed me, and she was very friendly.
I ordered the combo with Jajangmyeon (black bean noodles), Jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup), and Tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork). About 10 minutes later, all three dishes arrived together. The Tangsuyuk seemed to be fried in clean oil, and both the meat and the batter were exceptional. (Having worked in the restaurant industry, I could tell the frying oil was fresh.)
The Jajangmyeon and Jjamppong were delicious too, but the Tangsuyuk was the highlight.
The portions were generous, with all the food being flavorful and filling.
There were a couple of minor downsides:
After the food was served, although the restaurant wasn’t busy, no one came by to check on the food or refill the side dishes. But with food this tasty, it was easy to overlook. They were playing a Charlie Puth medley, which didn’t quite match the restaurant’s vibe. (Just a playful comment!)
●There’s parking available, though not a lot.
●The restrooms are separated for men and women.
I highly, highly recommend this restaurant. The food is incredibly...
Read moreI’ve been here a couple of times and was very satisfied with my food and service. Hence, why I recommended the place to my friends. However, today’s visit was very disappointing. It all started off on the wrong foot from the moment we placed our order. The server made an assumption and made an unnecessary comment. However, we brushed it off. We ordered several dishes we found the jjam bong soup to be shockingly bland. We mentioned this to the server and they didn’t seem very happy, but they took it and brought it back with some more soup….it was ever so slightly better. Then this was the highlight of our dinner, my friend had decided to pay the whole bill I wanted to split it so when I asked the server how much the total was she begrudgingly said it came to X amount BUT my friend had only tipped X amount. Is it not the customers right to tip as they see fit?! We obviously will not be...
