Well, it finally happened. Went to the Keg last night and had a very poor meal- enough that we won't be going back again for a while.
I ordered a French Onion Soup (15) and a 6oz sirloin (35). My wife had a Caesar salad (15) and their special a short rib (47).
So, my meal. The soup came out looking very pathetic. It is usually a nice big bowl with cheese overflowing the bowl. Not today. The cheese didn't even cover the soup. A shadow of what it normally looks like. And maybe I'm imagining it, but maybe there's some shrinkflation going on with it. Waiter comes out and asks how things are, and I mention the soup. I asked about the portion size changing. He said maybe the kitchen staff broke the regular bowls and they were replaced with smaller ones. Really???
Meals come out. My side (beans) are cold. My wife's barely warm. My beans get replaced. Steak and potato are very nice.
My wife's shortrib- HORRENDOUS. I could see how dry it was from across the table. Sadly, she's British and very polite and doesn't say anything and just eats it, along with some of my steak. This morning she agrees that she should have sent it back. They served it as small pieces, and it just dried out. SHAMEFUL.
Add to the the waiter forget to bring the bread out and brought it with our appetizers, and also messed up my drink order. WE have certainly had better service here before.
The restaurant manager did come out and apologize for the soup and comped it, and also replaced the cold beans. Sadly, both mine and my wife's beans were overcooked. Enough that it made a difference.
Hopefully this is just an off night, because when I go to the Keg and drop that kind of money on food, the service better be what it usually is- what I am used to at the Keg, and the food better be a lot better than the embarrassment we were served last night. To charge what you charged for the short rib- that was CRIMINAL. If it was up to me it would have been sent back, and I am pretty sure all of it went out of the kitchen that way, based on how it was served. You don't cut a tender short rib up into little pieces and cook it until it is completely dried out. Ridiculous.
Two stars for the actions of the manager addressing the soup and beans. Other than that, a total fail. You need to do a lot...
Read moreI was very disapointed with my experience. I made a reservation for 2 to celebrate my Birthday with a buddy I had not seen for a very long time. We were chatting and ordered a few drinks and we ordered a couple of steaks. Been here a few times but this would prove to be my last time here.
I ordered my steak medium rare and my buddy ordered it medium. His turned out perfect and mine came bloody. It was so bloody that I had to send it back to get it re-done. My server apologized and grabbed her manager. Manager never introduced her self but apologized for the under cooked steak. She was going to get a side plate so at least i can eat my veggies while I wait. Unfortunately, they didn't have a side plate and took my whole plate and told me I would get fresh veggies.
When I got it back, it was visibly more cooked on the outside (Charred) but when I cut into it, it was still notocibly rare. The manager came back to check on us, and I pointed out that it was still too rare. She apologized a second time and promised to get us fresh steaks. My buddy was going to wait and she suggested getting him a fresh one as well. We waited a few minutes and she served us our steaks. It was the exact same steak but it looked like it was microwaved. I exclaimed that it was the same steak? And she said yes. How is it now? I was, at this point, hungry and upset. I just mumbled that it was fine as I was obviously upset. I looked at my friend and told him that I'm not going to eat this steak and I am not going to pay good money for this food and service. I got up and told my server that we are leaving but would like to pay for the drinks we had. We waited in the front for her to come with our bill. Another server asked if everything is ok, I said no. We are waiting to pay. As this happened, the manager came out. Apologized and said that she would take care of the drinks. I was baffled. I will not pay good money at the Keg for poor service and I suggest anybody reading this...
Read moreTook my father for dinner for his birthday with my family. As we've been coming here every so often for evenings and occasions, we had the usual wine pairing, and escargot to start. The three of us each ordered a steak dish - all for a medium rare cook. Luckily, my parents had their steaks cooked to the standard of excellence one would expect at an established chain, and the norm of ordering a 'medium rare' steak. Unfortunately, my Top Sirloin was cooked considerably past this - to and perhaps a little past a 'medium'. We flagged down the waitress who had first suggested that this 'is' indeed a medium rare - but said she would be bringing out a new one.
As it was a special occasion, I was more than happy to be receiving what I had originally requested in that of a medium rare steak - but the general manager named James certainly made sure our experience yesterday night was well accounted for. James was attentive, came to check on us frequently, and had suggested I have something while waiting for my steak - to which I politely declined, as I was okay with waiting. Nevertheless, the new steak arrived to much better expectations of a medium rare cook, and James elevated our dinner with complimentary dessert.
Great food, ambiance, and a general manager who genuinely cares about the level of service definitely warrants this review. Some constructive feedback for the hall staff however, would just be around communication - as I had reserved ahead, and notified the staff again when I first arrived that it was a birthday occasion, but we didn't see the candle we'd expected (from previous experience as well as a table near ours) when our dessert cake was presented nor was this message ever conveyed to us. We were genuinely happy with all areas of service, and this was only a note in terms of consistency and communication when looking around at other tables celebrating.
Thanks again, and we'll definitely...
