We always go to sushi California on Austin and north road in Coquitlam, and always recieve great prompt service which is why we thought we would try another location in port Coquitlam on ponderosa rd.
BIG MISTAKE⦠My sister and I arrived at 7:30, at the same time as another couple, the waitress sat the couple first, then sat us right next to them literally elbow to elbow, it felt like we were eating with them.
It took forever for them to even take our order drinks included, but we noticed the couple next to us was served immediately and attented on constantly. Eventually we had our order taken and we got our usual. I got a california cone and a rainbow roll and my sister got a dynamite roll and rainbow roll aswell.
it took FOREVER to bring out food we got it (about 8:20 ish )
THERE WAS LIKE 10 chefs making the food behind the bar but it took nearly 30 mins for our food to arrive after ordering. The cali cone was mangled looking, and portions were off, it was stuffed with crab but lacked everything else, the rainbow roll had frikin egg in it which is actually super unusual for a rainbow roll. It didnāt have any sauce or anything on it, no cucumber, and had a odd selection of fish on the top.
My sisters dynamite roll had absolutely no sauce and tasted very strange, it had no crab, but tons of lettuce and the prawns were basically just fried dough, in fact there wasnāt really a prawn in it. Also the cucumber fell out like it wasnāt properly rolled. No sauce or seseme seeds and fell apart upon consumption
Not to mention that we didnāt receive our food at the same time. Which is just basic etiquette I nearly finished my food before my sister even received hers
The other couple next to us kept looking over actually surprised that we hadnāt gotten proper service. And it made the whole experience very frustrating and awkward.
It was honestly just disappointing. Itās not that the staff was rude or anything itās just that we felt they almost didnāt want us in there( we are Canadian/ British if you know what i mean ) , and the service was not acceptable, the sushi was below average and was nothing like the other sushi California locations food. Will not be going back to this location ever again. From all the other reviews Iāve read as I am writing this one, Iāve noticed that there is a pattern of this restaurant being discriminatory. If youāre white, I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI suggest NOT ordering from this branch. Ordered at 6:40, was told it would take 40 minutes. No problem, a popular place. Arrive to pick up after 40 minutes, and need to wait an ADDITIONAL 40 minutes. The only part there that is organized it them taking the money, and having two of the staff stare at you until you press the tip button, which was 100% undeserved at this time. The place was not clean, food scraps on the floor, outside the prep area and in front of the washroom, and we saw a staff member run from the back to the prep area with food dangling between his fingers. No apologies, the traditional "thank you for waiting" to which I replied that I had no choice, since they took my money but didn't give me the food yet. For that, they remembered to say "Oh yes, sorry about that". The main impression was not caring. I will continue to go to the Austin Branch, or the Guildford branch, even though these places add a 20 minute drive each direction, since the food AND service are well worth it at those locations. the food was mostly ok, except for them forgetting to put the wasabi on the Nigiri pieces, and the Gyoza and soup were obviously not fresh by the time we managed to eat it. I highly recommend ANY OTHER branch of Sushi California, based on over ten years of very...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFriendly warning: Completely off the ball when it comes to pick up/online orders. Note this review is only a dine out experience.
We put an order 1.5hrs before the pickup time and had to wait an additional 30 minutes upon arrival to actually receive our food. This resulted in about 10+ people waiting at the front door clumped up together as it was below freezing outside.
Trying to assess fairly, the sushi itself is okay overall, but quite good at the price point. It certainly is not worth waiting 30-40min or more for and the attitude at the restaurant is not very caring about wasting anyone's time.
I understand they are new, busy and excited but a new system is desparately needed to inform phone in and online orders. It's unacceptable and a complete waste of customers time to understate times and miss their commitments in such a competitive market... There are multiple sushi spots around here that are stellar and I know I'll be choosing them over Sushi California for...
