I have been getting mochido donuts for years before they even had this location open. I don't get it as often as before, but when I do get a chance to go out to Coquitlam, i'll stop by here to try the interesting new flavours. The flavours change every couple weeks/month.
I am quite shocked by some of these reviews in terms of the flavours. I guess they got a bad batch. No idea. But these donuts are supposed to have a chewy, doughy texture because they're made out of "mochi". Which is a Japanese glutinous rice flour. These aren't your traditional north american donuts. I'd say these would be in it's own category. For myself, I prefer chewy things and the cool, unique asian flavours because we don't have that here in metro vancouver.
I personally love these donuts, I think they're a good amount of sweetness, when I'm looking for something to satisfy my sweet tooth. Sometimes when i'm lucky, ill get warm fresh ones. :)
Also since I was here, I wanted to try the matcha strawberry and mango lattes to see the quality of a donut shop's matcha. I wasn't expecting much. However, I think they were delicious! I am a hardcore matcha drinker and usually make the best matcha lattes from home.
But I'd say these lattes were really great for what you can get out at a shop/cafe! It tasted like matcha and looked like the perfect green colour. I've been to ALOT of cafes and they always butcher my lattes or use old matcha that looks...
Read moreWas a frequent and loyal customer up until today. Came by after hours (unknowingly) and saw the open sign lit up so tried to open the door. It was locked and the miserable staff with the mole on her face who was closing today (June 29) drew a line across her neck and mouthed closed with attitude. So I simply informed her the sign was still lit up and it was a simple mistake on my part. She continued to glare and roll her eyes at me and utter words I couldn't comprehend. If you hate your job this much or interacting with people, quit. I'm assuming you're getting paid until you leave so your actions still represent your employer. Word to the owners of the business, do better hiring competent and decent staff. A simple "we are closed" would have...
Read moreThis donut shop doesn't serve your regular run-of-the-mill donuts, but the exotic mochi donuts! The Japanese rice pastry called mochi is known for being soft and sticky, and this characteristic mouthfeel is applied to Mochido's donuts; lightly crisp outside, chewy inside, with a sweet flavor that is not overwhelming. There are an assortment of flavors, but my personal recommendation is the black sesame.
Production seems to take a bit of time, so while walk-in is viable, perhaps it better to pre-order or get it for delivery. Furthermore, as this place opened up relatively recently, the interior is lacking, with not even tables and chairs. Definitely a buy-and-go place.
The donuts may be a bit pricey, but in my opinion, they...
