Hi, I am a regular customer as I lived in the neighbourhood all my life, and stumbled upon the google reviews while looking through the menu and read the 1 star reviews below.
It's funny because I was at the cafe last Thurday as well(as someone wrote below, Jan 16th, 2025 7pm ish!) My husband and I were sitting at the table nearest to the entrance, and ordered karak tea and the kaya bun to-go. We noticed a large group of people gathered at the big table - and I think they might be the same people commenting below giving one star reviews.
I just want to point out that the young man (and the young woman) who served us & the customers that night were not rude or unreasonable at all as I recall him talking with the customers. I don't think bringing a cake to a cafe is OK, especially when a cafe sells baked goods as a source of their income and to even expect help lighting the candles. Dessert cafes are not suited for smoke and fire - a direct hazard to the cafe and the customers around. A huge safety issue.
Those requests are more suitable for restaurants, and even so we usually call in advance or ask if it's OK to have bday cakes at their business. This is basic etiquette as customers.
I'm in no place to judge how they "felt", and I am truly sorry that they felt like the service was lacking or maybe there was miscommunication, but I can say confidently say that the employee did nothing wrong. If the employees are reading this, I hope you don't take these bad experiences to heart. Think of the 99% positive experiences you had. As a customer, I am happy to know that the you had the common sense to ask the customers to light the candles outside.
Let's make this world a better place, respect and love one another - this is the Coquitlam we love - and Paparoti is one of the warmest and the most accessible cafe that exists in the neighborhood.
Apologies for the rant, but I felt the need to write this after reading thise :)...
Read moreThis is my favourite go to cafe since it’s close to my house and the oatmilk mocha is delicious but last Thursday the 15th of August, I went in with my husband in the morning to do some personal work on our laptops, one of the customer came inside the cafe with his golden doodle (not a service dog). Me being a dog lover, I didn’t mind with cafes being dog friendly. However, this dog was so obnoxious and barking every couple of minutes. The cafe was pretty quiet at the time so her barks echoed in the cafe. She was barking for 10-15 minutes. I would not have minded for 5 minutes max but the owner of the dog should have left his dog outside while he was ordering and waiting for his order if he knew his dog is that loud and obnoxious. After a while I complained to the manager/owner to please kick the dog out because this is a cafe not a park and the owner’s response was “I know but I can’t kick out a customer.” I was not happy with his reply. Just because he’s a customer it doesn’t mean you can tell the dog owner if he can wait for his order outside or let him know only service dogs are allowed in the cafe. Some people don’t deserve to have dogs. :( Especially if you can’t control your dog or have the minimum manner/ etiquette towards owning one. Shame on you to...
Read moreWalked in with my husband at around 6 PM tonight as we usually have this coffee shop as our first pick due to their late hours on a Sunday.
Long story short, there are clear signs on the door: 2 HOUR MAXIMUM SEATING a long with “Please order before sitting down“
What we saw was two unhelpful staff who when we asked if we could be seated as we looked around with all tables full , people walking in after us running to grab seats and throw their bags on the chairs to save a seat.
When we communicated to the staff that we would like to eat in they simply (without making any eye contact) said “just find a seat we will bring it to you”
They failed to follow their own rules, people seat hogging while paying customers have to stand while other patrons can by pass the rules and find a seat, hog it and then to order or as we saw, people are just scrolling on their phones without eating or drinking.
Lastly, the garbage is overflowing and filthy.
Pro tip: don’t come here unless you want to eat and drink standing up and don’t hire teenagers to close up on a Sunday evening, it can ruin your reputation with locals who actually pay with their own money before hogging a seat. Imagine paying $20+ and you can’t even sit down and...
