I see reviews for this place that indicate “great spot-not too many Canadians 😊” and “quite fancy” and “prices very reasonable”, and some of these comments are accurate. But busy spots and glowing reviews do not sway my decision to eat at any establishment.
If you're seeking "authentic" food at reasonable prices, this is the place for you. However, don't expect anything fancy. While I can't personally speak to the authenticity since I don't have a basis for comparison, I do know what fair prices, quality, and a lack of frills look like.
I asked our server what the best-most popular dish was and did not receive an answer, but instead, I was explained what a menu is, . . . and the menu was pointed out to me, and I was left to read the menu, . . . and look at the pictures. Water glasses are continually filled and that was the extent of your service. In other words, service is quick and efficient and servers are there to expedite food and water.
As for “fancy”, it is not. This is a very clean unpretentious establishment. Portions are good, prices are excellent and, the place is busy for these reasons. The soup I ordered had all of the ingredients delivered first clearly showing the quality you are receiving for the price. Good presentation-mildly impressed. The broth follows and it is scalding hot. Why so hot? . . . because you do have to add all of your ingredients and allow them to cook. You do not need to wait long however they are cooked as soon as they touch the scalding hot broth.
If you are hungry, I suggest you order an appetizer because you will have to wait until the scalding broth cools! I was too hungry and could not wait, so I added cold water from my newly filled water glass.
My suggestion, do NOT add the noodles to the big bowl, . . . add the broth and cooked goodies to the smaller bowl provided-get two bowls and split the noodles if need be-trust me. Trying to eat slippery rice noodle out of a scalding hot bowl (with an inverted rim) is a challenge for the best spoon and chopstick afficionados.
I may return and try another dish if my server points out something popular . . . and...
Read moreRegrettably, despite a promising history, a recent visit to Yunshang Rice Noodle's Edmonton location on December 26th presented a stark contrast to previous experiences. The anticipation of revisiting a restaurant known for its innovative digital ordering system and vibrant Asian flavors was met with disappointment.
Previously lauded for its modern touch through an advanced digital ordering system, the restaurant had left a positive impression. Dishes like the Sliced Beef and Ox Tongue in Chili Sauce had thrilled palates, their robust flavors harmonizing with the delightful crunch of crushed peanuts. The Spicy and Sour Rice Noodle Soup with Beef and Enoki had exuded comforting warmth, while the Crossing the Bridge Spicy Rice Noodle Soup had delivered an engaging culinary journey akin to a hot pot experience.
However, the recent visit unveiled operational flaws and service lapses. The mobile order scheduled for pick up at 2:30 PM had resulted in an unreasonably delayed fulfillment, eventually prompting departure at 3:00 PM followed by a notification from the restaurant around 3:30 PM stating that the order was completed. Disconcerting encounters with front-of-house staff, notably the individual manning the till, portrayed dismissive and rude conduct, contradicting the previously observed efficient service.
Observations of inefficient kitchen management leading to delayed orders raised concerns, reflecting poorly on the establishment's reputation. This deviation from the prior exceptional experiences deeply impacted the overall assessment of the dining affair.
It is with regret that the recent shortcomings cast a shadow over the previous favorable experience. As a result, this evaluation merits a decrease in rating for the Edmonton location of Yunshang...
Read moreFirst thing is the price, I think their price is very reasonable for the atmosphere, service and food options. You scan the QR code from the table and order through that, waiters/ waitresses will bring food and drink to your table. It's good if you already know what you want, or for some cases, don't want to socialize and just need to find food and enjoy your time. But sometimes it could be hard to make a decision if you don't know the place/ dishes, you may need to ask for some suggestions from the employees there. In terms of service, it's fast, clean, friendly. In terms of food, I like "Crossing the bridge" style, they have a great selection, so I may need to come back to try more (such as the beef brisket/ fish noodles/ rice dishes). We got the tomato soup and original soup today. The tomato soup has a taste that reminds me of spaghetti, which is interesting for Chinese noodle soup. The Original soup was truly original, if you like something simple, you may like it, it's healthy, no MSG (which is a great point), but if you like more spices, or have been used to ramen noodle soup, you may think it's a bit bland. I would say I had expected the broth to be better. The non-crossing the bridge noodles should have better presentation if possible if they would like to level up the restaurant standards. They are having a great deal that you spend $40, you get $20 vouchers, $60 spend with $30 vouchers...by end of year, so hurry up if you want to save $$$ enjoying restaurant food. They also have a membership for $20, you get 10% off all dishes for a lifetime plus free noodles on your birthday. This sounds like a...
