I only post about excellent experiences (or really terrible ones). The Dosa Shop or TDS Cafe is outstanding. It’s not fancy but very clean and charming. The food and service (Harish and his wife are the owners; I was served by a very helpful Tamanna who baked some scrumptious desserts). Don’t expect posh but expect authentic and delicious!
This Indian restaurant has a genuine speciality in South Indian cuisine. For those familiar with Delhi, Harish worked for SAGAR for 10 years + hails from Udippi, one of the famous culinary capitals in the south! MIKE DROP!!😋
I can’t believe we have this gem here in Edmonton, and the quality shows in his food which is prepared with love and care, and served with pride. They don’t skimp on high quality ingredients like saffron, cardamom, etc. and keep things at a very affordable price. They also have mainstream wraps, sandwiches, cookies, chai, espressos, beverages, etc. all made in house from scratch!
The hours are great 7 days a week 10-midnight with rare free parking in the heart of downtown. It’s a cute informal cafe that deserves to be checked out.
On off-peak hours you won’t have trouble finding a table or free parking. You may want to stick to deliveries or pickup in peak times as it is a small dine in space (5-6 tables).
I’m not a blogger/influencer clearly as I finished my chicken biryani before I thought to take a picture 😆 But a place like this deserves to be supported...
Read moreI am glad I came across this place because it absolutely is the best Indian food on Whyte Ave! And you can trust my opinion on this, because I grew up in Mumbai in a foodie family.
There are so many good things to say but I want to start off with the actual space itself because as soon as I entered this restaurant it felt like I was transported to Mangalore. It is cozy and the mismatched (not sure if deliberate) colour schemes just add to the energy.
The owner was super welcoming and friendly and was happy to chat with us about their special dishes and tailor them to our preference.
I ordered the Lamb thali with chapathi while my husband ordered the chicken combo with masala dosa. Both dishes were served with an additional veg curry (choice of 2-3 options) , rice and salad. Both the lamb and chicken curries were flavourful. Surprisingly my favourite was the eggplant curry that accompanied my thali. The chapathi, dosa and rice were all great too. I think the only thing I didn't love was the chutneys (sauces) that the dosa came with. The portions are generous too.
I did make the mistake or ordering chai alongside the meal and then ignoring it until it got cold. Avoid doing this and possibly order your chai after the meal, it is quite delicious.
I cannot wait to back and try...
Read moreHonestly amazing food and very reasonably priced. A great option for vegans, vegetarians, and meat eaters alike, with owners that work hard to make sure you leave full and happy. I'm not sure why this page says reservations required; you can definitely walk right in and they're usually not too busy. I am not always a huge fan of South Indian food because I find the spice levels overwhelming, but the owners here listened and catered to my preferences and made my dosa with the perfect amount of spice-- some of the best food I have ever eaten. My Indian born fiancee prefers spicy, more authentic tasting food and has also fallen in love with the food here. They listened to what he wanted and have made both dosas and thali (on separate occasions) exactly the way he likes them. It's not often that a restaurant can make us both happy, but this place definitely did. It is clear that most things are made very freshly. Even the chutney, which would be very easy to store, tastes as though it is being made to order. The customer service is also amazing. The owner remembered us and made sure to check that my food wasn't too spicy and that we had everything we needed. Overall, I would highly recommend this place -- we will certainly...
