I ordered a large takeout meal (150$), and over the phone I asked for some rice with the meal. I asked the waitress how much rice would be enough for 6 people, she assured me that a large bowl would be enough. I picked up the meal on my way home. When I arrived home, there was no rice. I called the restaurant to mention that they forgot the rice, and they suggested that I double check the order to see if there was rice, as if I had neglected to see it. After politely double checking, I was then told, by the same waitress with whom I had been dealing with earlier on the phone, that the conversation never took place where I ordered the rice. They suggested, for a charge, that I could drive back to the restaurant to pick up an order. This conversation over white rice took like 10 - 15 minutes!
Now, I'm not one to complain, but I have two issues with this. First, it was insulting to suggest that the conversation never took place, and that after picking up a take out order I drive back to the restaurant to pick up an order of cheap white rice. Second, and more importantly, what kind of Thai restaurant nickle and dimes the customer over a take out order of white rice to accompany Thai food, which had curry etc, that was over $150. Is rice not supplied if you are in the restaurant? Maybe I'm old fashioned, but to me, that seems like very standard practice.
The food itself is mediocre, and after this experience I won't...
Read moreWow, wow, wow !!! Was not expecting to find good thai food in Halifax. Went in thinking it will be a mellowed out version and basically Chinese food but man were we wrong. If you've read my reviews, Thailand is a second home. We always try finding good thai while travelling. This is better than anything we have in Vancouver. Unreal!!! So good we went back to this place again before we left. If you know thai food like I do, don't be fooled by their menu as they've translated all the dish names in English to make it easier for the locals. The roots are still thai and each dish is the way it is supposed go be. You can tell them to turn up the heat if you like or tone it down. I can go on and on. They have 4 locations, we went to the one on Queens St in DT.
So good, so good, so good!!! Might have to go back to Halifax just for thai food. Posted pics from both meals. Don't forget to try their Mango salad and Papaya salad. Both so original...
Read moreCha Baa Thai Restaurant is an authentic Thai restaurant located just of spring graden road. This was my first time trying authentic Thai food and I was very impressed. I had the bbq Duck combo plate which comes with rice and a spring roll. The spring roll was light and fresh with a slightly spicy sauce for dipping. The rice is plain and sticky, not very good on it's own, but improved with broth from the main dish. The bbq duck was the star of the meal. It was my first time trying duck, but it was soft, melt in your mouth delicious. The broth complemented the dish perfectly, very well spiced with hints of sweet and spicy. I am excited to try more mains from this restaurant in the future.
Ps: sorry the spring roll was hiding behind the bowl, but I was too...
