Darrell's Restaurant — Restaurant in Halifax

First off, the food quality is great, which is why am giving two stars. However, the rest of the experience was not.

We ordered takeout through their app to have prepared and we were given a 30-minute wait time. That was fine, but come time for our order to be ready according to their app, we stood outside their restaurant. Others came and went while we continued to stand waiting. The folks working there even asked our names a few times for our order and didn’t say anything. After about 20 additional minutes of standing there we started to wonder if they forgot about our order and asked the server there when we should expect it by. We understand the restaurant is busy and we weren’t upset about the wait but the server’s attitude was argumentative stating we placed an order to be picked up an hour from when we placed it which wasn’t the case since their app doesn’t even allow delayed ordering.

At this point we were a little frustrated by the service and we continued to wait while we watched more takeout bags being placed near their exit. Soon afterwards, a bag was mysteriously taken to the back and within 5 minutes our order was ready to go....

The food we received while being really tasty was cold and clearly not fresh.

We’ve all worked in service jobs in the past including food service so we understand that these things happen with mixups etc. However, a simple “I’m sorry, let me see how we can fix this” goes a long way. Just take accountability and don’t blame the system folks, that’s all we want and we’d be understanding of...

When I first called the restaurant to place a pickup order, the waitress informed me that orders could only be made through their online or Uber app. With no other option, I had to physically come to the restaurant to order food, as the app didn't offer an open food selection. Upon arrival, I encountered a rude waitress with blonde hair.

After ordering food at the restaurant, I was informed of a waiting time of approximately 10 minutes. While waiting, I sat on seats near the entrance. Despite the restaurant being busy with the first floor almost full, the downstairs area was empty. As new guests arrived looking for a table, the waitress with blonde hair asked me to vacate the seats in a very rude tone, stating they were only for dining-in guests. I complied with her request.

After waiting for 15 minutes, I inquired about the status of my order. The waitress, clearly frustrated, informed me they were very busy. Eventually, I noticed my orders appeared ready in the kitchen, but the waitress stood by the counter, engrossed in her cell phone. When I mentioned that my order seemed ready, she ignored me and displayed an attitude, as if I shouldn't rush her.

Later, I witnessed her carelessly throwing my food containers into paper bags. Such disrespectful behavior left me deeply disappointed with the service at your restaurant. I regretted that I even tipped...

I reeeeeealy wanted to give this place 5 stars. They were soooooo close if not for the girl who sat me and sadly served my order. Darrell's is one of those quintessential burger places where there's nothing fancy and its just the way you like it. No doyle's, no table cloth, no dress code. Just honest cooks slaving over a fire making honest food. And the food was delicious. I had the classic bacon burger and was delicious. No smash, no fancy sauce, no silly name... honest. And the fries ..... best ever. So why just four stars?? First impressions are everything, and mine screamed, "... man, just when I wanted to go on break", or, "... will this night ever end??" Thank God the person taking my order genuinely appeared to care about my presence. Unfortunately, the same girl who sat brought me my order. And in the 50 years of eating out, this was the VERY first time someone has dumped a handful of ketchup packs on top of my meal?!?! Im sure that was some sort of health code violation. Some might call it picky... perhaps frivolous, but really .... you couldn't have used two hands?? I've been in the business before and that kind of service wouldn't have lasted a single night.

Again, the food, atmosphere and the server taking my order was 5 star... her......
