I reeeeeealy wanted to give this place 5 stars. They were soooooo close if not for the girl who sat me and sadly served my order. Darrell's is one of those quintessential burger places where there's nothing fancy and its just the way you like it. No doyle's, no table cloth, no dress code. Just honest cooks slaving over a fire making honest food. And the food was delicious. I had the classic bacon burger and was delicious. No smash, no fancy sauce, no silly name... honest. And the fries ..... best ever. So why just four stars?? First impressions are everything, and mine screamed, "... man, just when I wanted to go on break", or, "... will this night ever end??" Thank God the person taking my order genuinely appeared to care about my presence. Unfortunately, the same girl who sat brought me my order. And in the 50 years of eating out, this was the VERY first time someone has dumped a handful of ketchup packs on top of my meal?!?! Im sure that was some sort of health code violation. Some might call it picky... perhaps frivolous, but really .... you couldn't have used two hands?? I've been in the business before and that kind of service wouldn't have lasted a single night. Again, the food, atmosphere and the server taking my order was 5 star... her... not so much.

Another Halifax institution, this one famous for its burgers and shakes, most notably the peanut butter burger. Figured I'd come in for the first time in years. Great staff, great service, swift preparation, and nice accomodation. The menu is robust considering its fare. Burgers are great, about on par with Cheese Curds or any other gourmet burger joint, but not the best around (nothing will beat the Mic Mac burger in my opinion, that homemade patty). The exotic trimmings of the burgers are for a fairly distinguished burger eater. I had their barnyard-style burger, a sort of hot mess of fried egg, guacamole, bacon, etc, and it was great, but I couldn't help but think it was some stoner's late night concoction. My nephew's PB burger was spot-on, and my mother's mushroom Swiss was a more mellowed flavor, quite nice. The Darrell's spiced wedges are quite good, but I can't help but think the recipe has been made more mild over the years, or something had been changed. The biggest winner is the staff and the atmosphere. Really, you owe it to yourself to go.

My second visit to "My Other Brother Darrell's Restaurant", aka: Darrell's. (Didn't catch that on the first visit.) Last time was lunch but today I went for an early dinner and went all-out. For a starter I had the Spinach and Artichoke dip which was out of this world. The pita chips were homemade, nothing like what you would get out of a bag at the superstore. Secondly, was the BLTCM burger, short for Bacon, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Cheddar, Mayo. Awesome good burger cooked to perfection with a side salad in lieu of fries. I tend to enjoy the downstairs bar area which is where I ate today for the second time. Very cozy, the entrance to the bar is at the rear of the building off of the Sobey's parking lot. Staff in the bar area are very friendly and welcoming. Will be coming back on my next visit. At the time of this review they are offering a 15% off if you send them a text (See their website). Didn't work on my phone but I showed the where I had tried and was given the discount although the text did not go through.

Went to Darrell's for the first time in more than a dozen years since moving away from Nova Scotia. Ordered my former standard, a strawberry milkshake and pb burger. We watched as the tables next to us who were seated 15+ minutes after we had arrived were delivered strawberry milkshakes but mine didn't appear. Our burgers were delivered, we inquired about the milkshake and were told the kitchen was backlogged. By the time we finished our burgers no milkshake had appeared but another table which had been seated 25+ minutes after us had received a strawberry milkshake. There were no check-ins by any waiter after our food was delivered so my friend couldn't request the additional items she had wanted to order, including a milkshake. I was kindly given a small discount, but would have preferred a milkshake with my burger as I ordered. The burger was as good as I remembered it to be, the service was not.

We’ve eaten here before and enjoyed it. This time it was just ok. I tried the peanut butter burger and was not a fan. The mustard and the peanut butter just don’t match well together, imo. The bun was really fresh and soft and the burger patty itself had good flavour. Unfortunately the fries were “meh” and the gravy isn’t homemade. It tasted like it was from a can. The kids burger is a great value for the size, my son said he enjoyed it. The steak on the steak poutine resembled shaved deli roast beef. Understanding that the cost of everything has gone up we found it to be expensive. Our meal for 4 was $78 before tip and that included the peanut butter burger, kids cheeseburger and fries, small original poutine, and the steak poutine. We also ordered one Oreo milkshake and a Diet Pepsi.

It was suggested to me to go to Darrells and try the peanut butter hamburger...i thought perhaps the meat patty would be made with peanut butter...but disappointly not!! Ihad to go in search of the peanut butter It appeared to be just a cheese burger with a scrapping of peanut butter on one side of the bread roll covered with lettuce. Felt ripped off and disappointed all rolled into one. The atmosphere nothing special. I feel all this could be brought at any hamburger joint..and certainly not worth the money i spent..$20 canadian. My suggestion is i would not be suggestibg anyone race iff ti Darrells but rather find a hamburger place you like and get them to make yoyr peanutbutter hamburger. Over rated and over priced...
