This post is a response to Nino Antadze's One-star review.
Note I am not affiliated to this café in any way. I just love it so much I decide to shed some light on this review.
You will notice a few odd things in his or her review.
This person has only written one review (me too but I have my other account already reviewed this café). This suggests either this person is from a competitor or has had a very unpleasant experience here at The Daily Grind. It is tempting to get emotional and write a review like this. But I will prove why this is not the case.
Bad service - hands down the most friendly staff of all Halifax cafes I have been to and I have been to tons of them. Amazing staff. Notice how vague this guy word his or her review. If this person is Queen Elizabeth II then yeah I would say this coffee shop is not up to the standard of Her Majesty.
Bathroom without toilet paper - false. I have been here every day for the past couple of weeks and had never encountered the awkward situation when there was no toilet paper.
After COVID people are sensitive to such issues - Are "bad service" and "average quality food" are related to COVID? Cutlery looks clean to me unless you are some microbiologist trying to use a microscope and look for bacterial or viral species. They look really clean.
Interior and locations are lovely - cannot argue with this. But seriously, one-star seems too harsh so this person is clearly very grumpy at the time the review is written. However, provided that all the facts listed have been refuted, this is a scam solely aims to tarnish this cafe's reputation.
Beware of scammers folks. And let's keep this online community a clean place without viral particles...
Read moreSometime in 2021: Delicious breakfast Fiesta dish $11...3 eggs, salsa, sour cream, cheese, guacamole, tortilla chips). Just the right size to be satisfied, but not overfull. Cute atmosphere with maybe ten tables or so, comfy chairs, couple booths. I'll be back to try some other menu items soon.
May 8, 2022: Still very happy with the breakfast menu items. The Rise & Grind omelette took awhile to bring, but I don't mind, as it allows time to sit and just relax with coffee beforehand. The omelette was thinly fried, which I like. None of the specific ingredients stood out, but it still had a good flavor and comes with a single piece of buttered toast. Again, I left content and not bursting full. The place wasn't too busy for 9am on a Saturday, which for selfish reasons I loved/hate a loud cafe with people talking at a table two feet away. I will be back again here to try more items!
Canada Day 2023: foggy, drizzly morning may have kept more people home this morning, but I was pleasantly surprised to find the cafe only half full at 9:30. I expected to have trouble getting a table, but this was obviously not the case. The Classic- breakfast bagel with a Chipotle aioli, avocado cream, bacon, cheese, an extra egg for the helluvit, was delicious. A bit greasy, but not too messy. Matched with a latte was filling and I was glad that it didn't come with a side because that would've been too much on the belly today (with plans to browse the Brewery Market afterwards). I will be back!

Read moreBagel was awesome, but had two issues, that changed my impression.... First timer I believe in giving everyone a second chance, returned one week later for awesome bagel and for me , a breakfast wrap, service was much better and the wrap was so stuffed with peppers ( all 3 colors ) very filling, I had to take half home...coffee and Chai latte were ready quickly. As such , they redeemed themselves. And rating changed accordingly... But , leaving my initial post of my first visit, as it definitely needed improving upon. I had just a double fudge brownie, and the one I was initially given was half the size of the one in the front of the showcase, she changed out upon my request, but was not with a smile or pleasant... Secondly, my friends coffee was given immediately, and I was told mine would be down the counter when ready ..pumpkin spice latte ( quite good, in house syrup, they posted)... the loaded cooked breakfast bagel came to the table, coffee half drank, and kept standing at the counter waiting... While she made it, a co-worker came and they engaged in chit chat , while she slowly made my latte... And took another order from a customer who came back for another booze latte... Soured my experience... Great food...but the service was very uncaring.... Too bad one gives the tip upfront these days, I...
