OPA! of Greece Aberdeen Mall — Restaurant in Kamloops

My expectations were low, as I’ve never had a good experience at any OPA! over the years, and the location at Aberdeen Mall was no exception.

I ordered the Greek salad/calamari combo. $17.00

I’ll start with the Greek salad: the vegetables, particularly the tomatoes, were cut into huge pieces, and were nowhere near a sensible bite size. The ratios were also way off - I could count on one had the amount of green pepper pieces I had, and there was barely any feta. To top it off, I can confidently say I’m sure they forgot to add the dressing when they “mixed” the salad.

The calamari was horrid. Hard, yet chewy, cold, and lacking flavour. The batter crumbled off the moment you stabbed it with your fork in an attempt to pick it up. Terrible.

This experience was more than an insult to the Greek restaurants I’ve dined in over the years, and the fine Greek people I’ve know.

Very disappointed! We waited for months for their opening as we had loved dining here in Ontario. My hubby has a severe onion allergy and after screwing it up once, the big guy cooking, got very irate and said that because it was an open kitchen they could not guarantee no onions. We told him that we eat at numerous OPA locations on the coast and in Ontario and they do it just fine. He proceeded to get even more upset and tell us that we should find another place to eat then. I have eaten here many times in the past and it was great portions were fair and food was good. This time was awful Greek salad missing veggies a light dust of feta I mean literally a little dust lettuce underneath to hide the fact there is less than there used to be. We also ordered the large calamari it was sad. Mostly batter and almost half what they used to give the dude behind the counter was rude when I asked for a little feta on the salad.
