My wife and I booked a room at the Prestige Aberdeen Lodge in Kamloops for 1 night on our way from the Seattle area to Banff. We were greeted at the front desk by Isabella who was very friendly and got us checked in quickly. We were really happy with our room overall. We had a large king size bed that was very comfortable as well as a love seat in front of the TV which was great. The nice surprise that we were not expecting was it also had a large bath with jets right in the corner of the room with room for 2 people which was great for unwinding after a long drive. Also there is a 7-Eleven with a Tim Hortons inside of it, right next door to the hotel which was great for grabbing a quick bite to take back and enjoy in our room as well as breakfast for the road the next morning (much better value than the restaurant even with the 25% discount).
Now the only downside to the stay was when I went out before going to bed to grab us some water bottles at 7-Eleven, and on the way back in the building lost power while I was in the elevator going back to my room. Thankfully I was by myself as my wife had stayed in the room so I was able to call her on my cellphone before the elevator automatically lowered itself back down to the basement. If I had not been able to call my wife I would have been in trouble since I could not get an Internet connection on my phone so I could not look up the number to the hotel. The elevator has a phone in it, but either it’s broken, or it is dependent on electricity because it was completely dead. My wife rushed down to the front desk where Isabella was still working and informed her that I was trapped in the elevator. Isabella did everything she possibly could to help us, but her manager and the maintenance person were not answering their phones. When she could not reach anyone from the hotel that could help, she finally had to call 911. It took more than 20 minutes for her to finally get through to 911 but finally she was able to reach them and they sent the fire department to get me out. The fire department was understandably upset that they had to come and do the job of the maintenance worker when there are all these wildfires affecting so many nearby areas. Overall, I spent about 45 minutes trapped in a dark elevator which did put a damper on our stay. But I do want to reiterate that Isabella was really awesome and did everything she could to get me out of there and could not have been more apologetic, so my wife and I really did appreciate all that she did. Also the staff at the Moon Wok Chinese food restaurant that is located in the lobby was really helpful in assisting Isabella in connecting the 911 call, so we’re really appreciative of them too.
It would be disingenuous for me to knock down the score too much for that bad experience, because outside of the freak bad luck of being on the elevator when the power went out, I would have given the place a 5 star review. The only reason I’m knocking 1 star off of the score is not because I was trapped on the elevator, but because the manager and maintenance person who should have been available to help, were not answering their phones.
It’s extremely doubtful that we’ll ever be back in the area in need of a hotel, but if we ever are, with the quality of the room and excellent customer service provided by Isabella, we’d still...
Read moreI'll preface this by saying that I usually stay in Kamloops every year at the same time for a family reunion. There's usually something happening that weekend every year, so we made sure to make reservations a few months in advance, as we did this year. We called the hotel the day we arrived to say we'd be late checking in: told not an issue. We get there at 10pm to let them know we'd arrived, but we wanted to see our family right away, and they said no problem. We went to where we had to go, and when we got back (keep in mind, we HAD NOT checked in to the room yet but they knew we were there, we didn't even have a key from when we first got there) and the room looked like it had been recently used. Bed was unmade, dirty coffee cups, dirty towels all over the floor. It was disgusting. The night manager was great and cleaned it to the best of his ability but it should have never happened in the first place. So, from when we walked into our room at midnight, to when the room was actually cleaned, it took an hour and a half. We finally got to bed at 1:30am. While brushing our teeth, we also noticed the 20 or so dead moths and flies in the light above the sink counter. Forgot to take a picture, but gross. When I brought it up with the front desk upon checkout, they offered us 20% off on one night. To me, the mess and wait should've been a free night. I was told by the front desk attendant that "20% off is pretty good at this time of year. Plus, you were a walk-in, so of course it wouldn't be ready." I'M SORRY, WHAT? The entire town was booked due to tournaments, etc, and we booked 2 months in advance, there was no walk-in space in any hotel in town! And apparently it is totally acceptable to have a room dirty upon check-in, EVEN when you arrive two hours before actually checking in and they tell you it's ready for when you get there. They lied to us about the room, the breakfast was horrible, (we didn't even eat anything because it looked so gross, we went to Cora's instead) and the front desk attendant was rude at best. ONLY redeeming part of this entire hotel was the night attendant, who busted his butt to make our room ready! Basically, the hotel rents the room out hourly by the looks of it. Plenty of other hotels that offer better breakfast, better service, cheaper rates and cleaner rooms. Don't waste your time here. Disgusting excuse for...
Read moreStaff not that knowledgeable nor do they care about making you feel welcome. Except for the the 1st guy that checked us in. For 250 a night at least try to care.. I mean isn't it the hospitality industry. The real Prestige that answered our phone for vacancies etc across from Aberdeen lodging. The fellow we had 1st night on check was professional and respectful, the next guy acted like guard from a security mall. Complete opposite. Unprofessional and wrecked our long awaited experience. We were happy but when we called we must a got the sister hotel across the parking lot. That said they were a hotel with the pol not across the street. When we called for availability they were friendly desk service was helpful friendly and accommodating to what we found on Expedia. However I went down to have a cigarette 2nd night before bed we forgot our lighter my brother went upstairs to get it and the front desk person whom we never seen before (night auditor) had his ear against the door listening to my family rather then calling. Upon being confronted he said he had a complaint from the 346 below us. Then why not call? I will not come back here,we paid over 500 for 2 nights they told us our room would adjoin the pool and now we're in they're less then sister hotel across the street why would i let my kids walk across the street to swim. Just be cautious and ask!!!Be careful but having a person listen to my family while we honored the no smoking forgot our lighter came back to a man listening to my door is beyond frightening and I will follow through with this. Otherwise why put a family in a room that complains about the family above I a. Deluxe room suite. Also the parking socks. This place when people figure it out Is just word and tonight's front desk...
