From reading the other reviews I was very excited to get some pho from Pho Soc Trang. My family and I went in excited for some comfort food after being on the road and for the last 4 days. We love the pho we get from our hometown of Calgary. What I can tell you is that If you are looking for traditional pho then this not the place to go for it. But apparently it’s the best in Kelowna (from Google reviews) so take that for what it’s worth. When we walked in we spoke Vietnamese to the hostess. Nothing complex, we just told them “table for 3” in Vietnamese, however the girl did not understand. Red flag one (Maybe it is presumptuous of us to think they would understand Vietnamese without asking). When we sat down the table placement had a fork and chopsticks (red flag two). After we ordered two bowls of their house special they came and placed a plate of sprouts with a few stems of cilantro (no mint, basil), red flag three. The pho was different. It had fresh ginger slices in it. Yes ginger is used in the stock but never sliced up and served in the broth. This changes the taste of the broth significantly. The broth was extremely fatty. Which I’m not sure if it is that way because we ordered the house special (Dac Biet) and maybe had added “nuoc beo” in it or not. Either way, the taste of the broth was off. It was like eating a homemade bowl of pho from someone who didn’t quite know the right ingredients. I ordered a large and the serving size was comparable to a small bowl in Calgary. The price is high for quantity and quality too. We ordered a traditional ice coffee and there was too much condensed milk and also tasted water down. Service was mediocre at best. They were not friendly and did not seem to appreciate the business. Definitely I do not recommend this place if you are craving a traditional...
Read moreThe most authentic Vietnamese restaurant in the entire Okanagan came highly recommended by a Vietnamese staff member at Quantum Games!
Located just up a flight of stairs, the booth seating and comfortable chairs along with a modest Oriental decorative theme provides an understated atmosphere to enjoy the most courteous service and last but not least, sumptuous authentic food.
As my first visit I enjoyed a large bowl of 18. House Special: Phò Dac Biet.
The dish came fully furnished with bean sprouts, Thai basil, a jalapeno ring and a wedge of lemon! The broth was delicious and rich, with plenty of various meats and noodles.
*EDIT Feb16/2021: Second time upstairs at Pho Soc Trang and this time had the Huè Spicy Soup which was absolutely fantastic! A gourmet bowl of flavours featuring a lemongrass broth with your choice of heat, although sriracha sauce and jalapeno slice is provided... sweet and spicy, sour and savory dynamite dish that is best served with traditional round noodles and a pot of tea on the side. An absolute must at this gem of a restaurant named after a province in the southeast of Vietnam, Soc Trang borders water at the Pacific...
Read moreWorst experience in 8 years! Took awhile and needed to get their attention so we could order(they have 2 tables with customers that time and already eating). Two male waiters busy chatting at the bar. We ordered soup on a cold weather today and requested in a really nice manner(as always) if we could have it boiling hot(extra hot) with please and thank you. Served cold. Request them if they could heat it up for us more and we’re okay even in the microwave and doesn’t need to replace it. Two male waiters seemed annoyed and told us that was already boiling hot and they can’t boil it more, other one told us that is was still smoking when he served it. We tried to understand them because we’ve been in the same workfield before. Came back less than a minute or two with the same outcome. We don’t know if he really warm it up. We just ended up taking it out and pay for it. We decided to just warm it up ourselves at home in...
