I don't ever write restaurant reviews. This is my very first one. But I thought I just had to do one for this place.
My wife and I were visiting Kelowna from Alberta in early April 2022 and stopped in for dinner at Memphis Blues Barbecue House with my cousin in tow. We have visited many southern BBQ joints all over the U.S. and Canada. We love the food, and if they're playing the blues in the background that's even better.
WOW is all I can say about Memphis Blues Barbeque House. The service was very fast and friendly from a sweet young lady by the name of Em. There was a little confusion with my order at first but it was totally my fault. I didn't ask what came on the pulled pork sandwich. I thought it would be just pulled pork and sauce. Turns out they put slaw on it and I don't like slaw. So, embarrassed, I asked if they could make another without slaw and I said that, since I didn't ask, I would totally understand if they charged me for two sandwiches. "No problem" Em said, "And we won't charge you for two," So they did it over. But there was another miscommunication as the cook (John I think) thought I said no sauce. So they happily made me one up with just the pork and sauce. We all had a good laugh about the confusion but the main thing is they made it right and didn't give me a hard time. But that's what good restaurants do. They take care of the customer.
So when we did get around to our meals they were fantastic. My sandwich was absolutely mouth-watering! BEST pulled pork I have ever had. And I mean that sincerely. The beans were also the best ever and my wife and cousin loved their meals just as much. My wife is NOT a fan of corn bread but decided to try theirs because - you never know - it might be different. Turns out it was. I didn't have the corn bread but my wife said it was amazing. All around a great dining experience and great value for the money.
To make it absolutely perfect they were playing the blues and at a comfortable sound level so we didn't have to talk loudly in order to hear each other. One of my pet peeves is restaurants that blast the music and ruin your dining experience. Not here though. The volume on the music was perfect. Just like our meals.
We enjoyed ourselves so much we tried to go back two days later but unfortunately a sign on the door said they were, "closed due to unforeseen circumstances." Dang!
If we lived in Kelowna Memphis Blues Barbecue House would be a regular haunt for us. Well done! Thank you all so much for a fantastic dining experience. If we're ever in town again I sure hope...
Read moreAmazing food Terrible service I feel bad for the cook for doing such an amazing job only for the waitress to be so rude that she told us (a group of 7 people eating today and a total group of 10 people who would've otherwise returned) to go out and never come back. The story starts yesterday when we tried to eat at Memphis blues bbq for our second time. Our first time was an amazing experience with incredible food and a super nice waitress and consequently we tipped good and planned on returning sometime which happened to be yesterday. We tried getting a table multiple times already only to be refused as there wasn't enough space for seven people despite us offering to squeeze into a smaller table. When the big table finally freed up however, and we asked the same waitress who served us today whether we could sit down, she refused saying that it was still dirty and she got better things to do right now than to clean the maybe six bottles of the table and swipe over it, which as someone with serving experience like me can confidently say, wouldn't't have taken two minutes. Because we had been rudely and without much consideration rejected multiple times before and now we got told by the waitress that she "has better things to do" we ended up not going to memphis and instead went to a super nice korean restaurant just down the street where they let us stay despite it being after closing time. We returned today, this time with a reservation to avoid cases like yesterday and hoping for a different waitress (as you can maybe tell we got unlucky). And during our time eating, there wasn't much to complain about as we once again received amazing food. But when it came to paying only 3 of us ended up tipping in retaliation for yesterday's rude treatment for a total of maybe 12-15 can dollar (keep in mind the restaurant was completely empty, except for one guy at the bar, so that's 12-15$ she wouldn't have made otherwise and we also behaved well and ate quick on a 160$ bill (before tax). Long story short she ended up screaming at us to never go into the serving industry because it doesn't pay well because of people like us who don't tip and to get out and never come back. Congrats you just lost yourselves 10 customers who already planned on returning for a birthday with 10-12 people but i guess we are going to the korean place now. Wont return as long as...
Read moreUnfortunately I have to leave a 2 star review because I was really disappointed in the food. I ordered a pulled pork meal and I was dumbfounded that I had to dip my pulled pork in sauce on the side. Why was the pulled pork not in the sauce? This confused me. It tasted ok but it would have been so much better if the pork was marinating in that sauce for a long time. I found the corn bread to be dry and the fries were also dry and overcooked. The beans I enjoyed. I also enjoyed my ginger ale and Jack Daniel's. That was good. I'm giving 2 stars because I did have one really nice waitress who was extremely genuine, sweet and willing to go the extra mile. She gave us more ice when we asked and was a great example of good customer service. The person who brought us our food was clearly in a bad mood. She brought the food and I was expecting her to put it down in front of me, instead she shook the whole tray in front of my face and I figured she wanted me to grab it, which I did. She didn't acknowledge me and turned around in a huff. I can understand that you're having a bad day but maybe let someone else bring the food in that case. I would also appreciate if this place paid for the stingray music service. It was very disruptive to listen to the stingray ad after every song. Took me away from the conversation I was having. I would love to have written a good review about how amazing the meat and service were at this place but unfortunately that was not my experience. Maybe I'll try again next year and hope that everything has improved by then. If not then I can understand why this place seems empty most of the...
