I have eaten here many times and absolutely love the food. However, I feel compelled to leave a very negative review because of the extortionate 10% "service charge" they have been applying to the bill during the pandemic. As the attached pic of our bill shows, they are applying the service charge *on top* of the food charges and sales tax. The tip is then added to the entire amount. This means that even if the customer gives the minimum tip suggested (15%), it is in effect more than 25%, as the tip is calculated on top of taxes and the service charge. In the past, we have given upwards of 20% tips here. To be fair, the service charge is listed in a menu insert but many, if not most, people will miss it. Also, of the three menus we used the last time we were there only two contained the insert. I was the one paying the bill, so I would have missed it. We ourselves had eaten there many times before noticing the new charge. In fact, it took a relative visiting from Ontario to alert us to this practice. I understand that the hospitality industry has been hit particularly hard by Covid-19, but it is unconscionable to try to pass the costs onto the customer in this sneaky way. Note that I would have no problem whatsoever with this if the Dosa Crepe Cafe owner had put a large and clearly visible sign at the door the stating the new "service charge" and how it is calculated, so that everyone entering the establishment would be aware of it and be able to make an informed decision. My family will no longer be patronizing the Dosa Crepe Cafe and we will be sure to let all our friends know of this stealth "service charge" so that they can decide for themselves whether they are willing to support a place that treats customers this way.

Dosa Crepe Cafe is a delightful culinary gem nestled in the heart of downtown, offering a fusion of South Indian dosas and French crepes. The ambiance is cozy yet vibrant, with colorful decor and inviting seating arrangements. The menu boasts an extensive selection of dosas and crepes, catering to both traditionalists and adventurous diners alike. From classic masala dosas to innovative Nutella-filled crepes, there's something to satisfy every craving. What sets Dosa Crepe Cafe apart is the quality of their ingredients and the precision in their cooking techniques. Each dosa is perfectly crisp on the outside and delightfully fluffy on the inside, while the crepes are light and airy with just the right amount of filling. The staff is friendly and attentive, always ready to offer recommendations or accommodate special requests. Whether you're grabbing a quick bite during your lunch break or enjoying a leisurely brunch with friends, the service is consistently excellent. Overall, Dosa Crepe Cafe offers a unique dining experience that seamlessly blends the flavors of two distinct culinary traditions. With delicious food, welcoming ambiance, and top-notch service, it's no wonder this cafe has quickly become a favorite among locals and visitors alike.

The food was good..atmosphere could have been better. The server was really nice. I'd like to say that they can improve the presentation of the food a bit. The chicken biryani at first glance looked bland, but it tasted pretty good, I wouldn't mind a bit more quantity, but for the price, it was good enough. The spicy masala dosa was very nicely made. A little on the darker side but perfectly crisp and warm. I did ask for a bit more spice, but it didn't seem too hot for me. So if you like spicy, ask for them to make it hotter. I forgot the name of the appetizer we ordered. It was a crispy vada. Did not like it. It seemed a bit stale and not as crispy. The taste was well enough. Serving size was a pleasant surprise (I couldn't finish my dosa!!) at this price point ($$). We tried this place as they recently added halal meat to their menu and were a little disappointed that only chicken is halal and as per the server only on request. So if you go, make sure to ask before hand if they have the halal options available. Overall, I would definitely go again and try the other options on the menu.

Time 15:30 to 16:30 - Date April 14, 2024

As regular customers for the past 3 years, we have always enjoyed our visits to this Dosa cafe. However, recently, we've noticed a concerning change in behavior from one of the staff members.

This particular girl has been consistently rude towards us over the last few months. Unfortunately, during our most recent visit, we felt like victims of partiality. Her service was exceptionally impolite.

When we provided feedback about our experience, she responded dismissively. Although she nodded and said "yes," she didn't express any genuine remorse. Instead, she seemed to accept the feedback begrudgingly. Initially, the dosa she served us was of poor quality, and when we expressed our dissatisfaction, she argued rather than apologizing.

Interestingly, we observed her interactions with other Canadian white customers, and she treated them kindly. However, when it came to us, her demeanor and body language changed dramatically. We've encountered rude behavior from her on multiple occasions. As a group of almost 6-7 household members who regularly visit the Dosa Shop, this experience has left us disappointed and concerned.

We hope that management addresses this issue promptly to ensure a more welcoming and respectful environment for...
