We are in the middle of our 5 week seafood trip through Maine, NB, NS and PEI and needed a break so we risked trying a Spanish Tapas restaurant in the seafood town of Lunenburg and we are glad we did. The place is so cozy, decorated with antiques that makes you feel like you’ve been transported to Spain. The food delicious, we had the deviled eggs with anchovies, so good we wound up getting a total of 3 orders of 2 eggs each! The Manchago cheese was served room temperature which is perfect as most places serve cheeses so cold you can’t even taste them. The shrimp and garlic were perfectly made, tender and fresh. Our server took care of the perfect wine pairing, everything was perfect for the evening.

Great change of pace from seafood shacks and other classic east coast fare. It's busy but we only had to wait about 20 minutes for a table on a Friday evening. We enjoyed everything we ate. It's an efficient little place - no kitchen (we assume everything is prepped at one of this restaurant group's larger establishments) and runs expertly with just four great staff members. Six dishes were just right for us for a light dinner. Unlike a lot of other places in Lunenburg I wouldn't consider this restaurant kid friendly. Also, the seating options are limited - at the bar, on a low bench with little tables along the wall, or at one of two small high tops.

Drinks were decent, some of the dishes we had were fine, but we paid $30 for the driest, most clumsily cut slices of iberico ham I’ve ever seen. I’ve never been served a restaurant’s trimmings before. I’ll never go back. Update: After getting a request to call and not hearing back, I went in where they confirmed that their kitchen staff was not properly trained and refunded me $30 of my meal.

We were completely out of luck not having reserved dinner on the evening of our arrival in Lunenberg, and strolled into Bar Salvador by chance and out of desperation. It was the best decision we could’ve made. Not only was it the best food we had whilst in Lunenberg, but also the drinks were fantastic, and the atmosphere was lovely and intimate. This is the only place in Lunenberg which should have queues outside their door. We had the eggplant caviar, the calamari salad, goat cheese and red pepper bruschetta, and the potato salad, all of which were SENSATIONAL. Highly recommend Bar Salvador, and kudos to the staff who work there for making us...
