A Hidden Gem in Lunenburg!

Walking into Hodge Podge Café felt like stepping into a cozy, welcoming space where every detail is carefully thought out. The eclectic decor adds to the charm, and it truly lives up to its name, offering a unique yet comfortable vibe.

We came by for lunch and were so impressed by the food! The quesadilla, tomato soup with fennel, and French onion soup were all incredibly flavorful, with the French onion soup being the standout—hands down the best we’ve ever had.

What really made our visit memorable, though, was Naomi. She runs the café with such warmth and kindness, taking the time to chat with us and even helping my husband navigate his new vegetarian journey. It’s not every day you find a place where you’re treated like family.

The café itself is impeccably clean, the atmosphere is so relaxing, and the prices are spot on for the quality of the food. If you find yourself in Lunenburg, make sure to stop by—this little café is a true gem. We’ll definitely be back!

To Naomi, Just wanted to send a big thank you for the amazing experience at Hodge Podge! The whole place has such a warm, cozy vibe, and it really felt like home.

But more than anything, we truly appreciated you. You were so kind and welcoming, and the time you took to chat with us made our visit extra special. A special thanks for helping my husband with his vegetarian journey- your tips were so helpful, and he left feeling much more confident about it.

Can’t wait to come back again...

Very local. Good vibes. Friendly staff. Smells wonderful. Very cozy.

It's a few streets from the docks, up a couple small streets. The first impression is TLC. The owner cares. We were treated immediately. Food prep began before our ordering finished (you could tell because someone that looks like she could be the small-business-owner's Mom was visible through the window, and she started prepping food from a fridge that could've been bought for a small family home). I felt immediately welcomed. The smells wafting in from behind the counter add to the feeling of anticipation of a home cooked meal. The lack of polish in presentation was more than made up for by the care and attention given to every surface, menu item, and in how we were greeted upon entering. You can tell they care.

My kids were a bit ornery with their orders but they were very flexible and accommodating.

If you're around for a quick stop, I highly...

some lady, I’m assuming the owner, decided to yell at me on her way in the shop because i was stopped behind their driveway. she started the interaction very harshly and proceeded to tell me how many times shes called the cops & got people towed for parking behind her car. understandable but i wasnt parking and leaving my vehicle. i was there for a cpl minutes looking at directions on my phone in the car and had just pulled into reverse when she came up to my car window and yelled at me to get lost. I’m not from here. you work & live in a tourist town and you wanna freak out at people over little things like that? if you would’ve looked at me for a second you would’ve seen i was pulling away and never even parked...

We visited Lunenburg for sightseeing and stumbled upon Hodge Podge Eatery. Their seafood chowder truly lived up to the hype—probably the best Nova Scotia-style chowder we’ve ever had! It was rich, flavorful, and packed with delicious ingredients, almost like an East Coast version of chicken noodle soup. The bread on the side was perfect, too. The cozy, cute atmosphere and friendly staff made it a great stop during our trip. For around $30, it was well worth it. If you're in Lunenburg, don't miss this spot for an authentic chowder experience!
