Nice place, really nice staff. Been here two times before but my recent take out was a little disappointing. Ordered chicken satay with peanut sauce, chicken in green curry, Shrimp Pad Thai, Beef Basil and Coconut rice.
The chicken satay was dry and, even as an appetizer portion, very small. The chicken in green curry was mostly sauce with some eggplant and just a few pieces of chicken. The beef basil was mostly onions, few peppers and even fewer pieces of beef. The shrimp pad Thai was not at all what I would expect from a pad Thai. It tasted like rice noodles with ketchup and the shrimp was difficult to locate.
Except for the Pad Thai, the flavours were pretty good. We had asked for medium heat and they delivered a perfect balance of flavour and heat. With the entree portions so small it's a wonder they charge extra for rice. My biggest "beef", as it were, was that they charge extra for meat but the charge is hardly worth the quantity that you get. If nothing else they should add more vegetables and scale back a bit on the onions. The beef basil description is "...red/green peppers and basil cooked in chilli garlic sauce." missed the mark as it was primarily onions with few green and no red peppers.
I have eaten Thai food for many years and, locally, I am a frequent visitor of Thai by Thai in Surrey. (Highly recommended if you happen to be in the area of King George and 108.) I really wish to have been more impressed with Smile by Thai. I live in Maple Ridge and am sorely disappointed with the dining options...
Read moreHeard all kinds of good things from various people. Decided to check it out with my girlfriend. She had the Cashew Chicken and I ordered Sweet & Sour Prawns.
Right from the get go, the atmosphere was soured by the manager's(owner?) attitude, both towards customers and the staff. Was really short with people on the phone as well as incredibly rude to the server, who was the only saving grace and would probably be better off taking her skills to a less hostile work environment.
Then, we got our food. Flavour was ok. Portion was nothing to write home about. The chicken in the Cashew Chicken was lacking, both in quantity and flavour. Almost as though there are shredded, boiled chicken breasts sitting, waiting to be thrown in with whatever sauce happens to be chosen. One would also assume that the Cashew Chicken would have an abundance of cashews as well, if only to make up for the lack of chicken. Nope. Lacking there too.
Sweet & Sour Prawns were OK. Prawns were a little rubbery and again, the portion wasn't worth the price.
The highlight of the meal was the rice. Sadly, quality rice isn't a reason to go back to a restaurant.
Will we go back? No. Do I recommend this...
Read moreI ordered take out from this restaurant today for the first time, and I must say I am pretty disappointed in what I received. The "salad" in the box is merely some brown iceberg lettuce with no dressing and one sliver of a shredded carrot. In the photo attached the reddish colour of the lettuce is not the curry, it is in fact the rotting of the lettuce itself. The curry I ordered is way too sweet, has mooshy and spongy tofu in it, and maybe 4 small chunks of bell pepper. I spent an extra dollar for coconut rice and my Curry is sweeter and tastes more like coconut than the rice... I don't know what the heck is going on, but I've had Thai red curry about 30 times and it has never been this bad. Im writing this review in hopes that the owner sees this and looks into the quality of their take out orders, as I will not return to this place or recommend it to anyone. It is not a fun experience ordering food on my break to take it back to work and have to throw out...
